Acoustic band (Three Drink Minimum) with guitar, vocals, cajon

Hello – first post! I’m using the Bose L1 model II with B2 and T1 for my acoustic band, Three Drink Minimum. 11 gigs under our belt so far and having great luck with the Bose.

Our set-up is an acoustic guitar, vocal harmonica, and a cajon/percussion player. Due to the number of mics involved, we’re using a Mackie mixer going into one channel of the T1.

Input 1 – Vocal mic
Input 2 – SM57 miking the sound hole of the cajon. Using the SM57 hand percussion preset the Kick gate = KILLER thump!
Input 3 – Input from Mackie mixer. Including a mic on the front of the cajon plus another mic on a gooseneck that can be repositioned depending on the primary percussion for the song. For example, the foot tambourine, shaker, etc.
Input 4 – Acoustic guitar

B2 on the mid-setting. Usually having the volume on the T1 of about 6 (1:00) seems to be the sweet spot for most of the venues we’ve played.

Any input on this type of set-up is welcome. Like I said we’re having great results but always looking to improve! Miking the cajon/percussion setup as a “full kit” was the biggest challenge but with the 3 mics I think we’ve got it pretty good now.

Have you considered using an XLR to 1/4 inch adapter for the percussion mics, and running the 2 of them to inputs 4/5, so that you could eliminate the Mackie Mixer? Perhaps lighten your load? This would leave 1, 2, and 3 for 2 vocal mics, and your acoustic guitar. Just sort of thinking out loud here.
Good Luck!

We are an acoustic quartet and just bought a L1 1S B2 and run EVERYTHING through a Mackie ProFX16. Fiddle, guitars( mic’d and DI), mando, banjo, bass and 3 vocal mic’s. We skip the T1 and go from the Mackie XLR to the 1/4 in balanced on the stand. We can then EQ and set levels all at the Mackie. ZERO feedback. ZERO level problems, with the Bass module at normal. Play from smallish coffeehouses to big 300 ppl beer gardens all without any issues and super clarity. The Mackie just offers lots of options ( like warm room FX etc ) we use to tweak us out. I’d keep the Mackie in the mix myself. Have fun!
