Adding a F1/812 to a T1 system

Hi

I currently have a L1 II/B2 system with two T1's and a added 12 channel sub mixer. I love the sound we are getting but want to improve on it for using with a larger venue. We are a four piece band with two on vox. Two guitarists that sing, bass running a DI and Drummer with mic'ed kick and snare/hihat. The electric guitars are non mic'ed but we run two acoustics through the system. Our sound works well for us in small to medium small (200 seat) venues but for anything larger than that we will want to mic the amps and get a bit better reinforcement.

I am ready to buy now and I am having a hard time making up my mind on which would be better, adding an additional L1 II/B2 or the F1/812 combo. Can you give me some guidance in making the proper choice. I currently run the 2nd T1 into the analog in on the base and run the mixer into the 4/5 stereo slot on one of the T1's. If I go with the F1/812 how would I integrate it into the system? BTW I will also probably add an additional T1. I am leaning towards the F1/812 for the added flexible coverage and the big boost and oomph in power output for better coverage in a 500 seat gig particularly with wide ranging dynamics. However I like the idea of using the second L1 in the manner in which it was intended for proper separation/musician placement. Can you help me make the most appropriate choice based on the info I have shared and my budget constraints?

I need to make my choice within the next two day in order to take advantage of the current Bose promo and special financing available until then

Hi galleryg,

It sounds like you’re considering the right stuff here. I agree if you were to run an additional L1 II you would probably be better served to split the sources between the two. Even if you ran two L1 IIs with identical signals they don’t necessarily approach doubling the output:

So if your L1 II is challenged with your mix at greater than 200 seat gigs, I think you’re right to consider the F1 which has much more power. To complicate things a little, the F1 is designed as a front of house loudspeaker which is intended to be in front of the performers with separate monitoring (floor wedges or in ears). Two F1s are often used. Of course rules are made to be broken so you might get good results running the F1 unconventionally but your mileage may also vary. I think if I were adding a single F1 combo to the L1 II, I would still split the sources with drums and bass through the F1. You may be able to cheat the F1 placement toward the front to prevent feedback being that bass is pretty omnidirectional.

The F1 input is much the same as L1 II – line level ¼” so your 12 channel mixer could connect there and/or a T1 using the T1 power supply (F1 has dual ¼” inputs).

Hope this helps!
