Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for telling us about your band.

Do you carry your own lighting? I can see the back lighting, but are you also doing something similar from the front?

Hi ST.

We have several different light shows, so yes, we have something similar in the front. We go from just a few cheap LED Pars on either side of the stage up to 24 higher end LED pars with q-spot 160 moving heads and come 4-Play CL and Quad Phase lights. Also have a Radiance hazer and a Chauvet hazer. How many do we bring? Well, how much ya paying? I’ll be posting some newer video of our different rigs in the coming weeks.

Could you detail your PA a little bit more? I’m curious as to what you are using for the low end. B1 bins or other? My project plays everything from Johnny Cash to Stone Temple Pilots. Nothing that needs chest thumping bass/kick, but I still want the bottom to be balanced with the rest of the sound. Looking at 2 L1 M1 columns and 2 to 4 B1 bins. What is your take in that?

Thanks!

Here is our PA info:
Bass/Voc: L1M2 with 2 B1s and T1 (I have 2 more B1s and a Packlite but have never needed to use them)

The bass is plugged directly into the T1 using the Fender Jazz Bass preset.
The mic is Audix OM5 plugged directly into the Tonematch with the matching preset.

Guit/Voc: L1M1 with 1 B1
The guitar is played through a Line 6 Pod XT (old!) directly into Channel 2 using no preset.
The mic is an Audix OM5 plugged into a TC Helicon Voicelive 2, then into channel 1 of the L1 with the matching preset.

Drums: L1M2 with 4 B1s, Packlite, T1
We have two drummers. One of them can’t play on certain days due to work commitments. Both have Roland V-Drums. One has a TD-20, the other a TD-30.
One of them sings using OM5.

We have found that there is enough chest thump for our venues. We play your basic bars, plus corporate events and weddings in rooms hold between 75 and 1000 people. Sometimes even large outdoor street type events.

Even Bose Hater musicians and sound folks (and they are out there) have come up to us in amazement and have been ‘converted’.

Are we ‘in your face’ loud? No. We are ‘Wow, those guys sound great’ loud.

This has been wonderful for the bar scene. Everybody can give and take drink/food orders without shouting. Management loves it. Customers don’t crowd to the back of the room to avoid ‘the blast’.

For the Corporate event/Wedding gigs, the reaction is the same. We fill the room with just the right volume and coverage. Never any volume issues.

Years ago, when we first got the Bose systems, we tried an external sub for the drums because we thought we needed more thump. We were wrong.

At least, that is our band’s experience and opinion. As always, other people are free to feel otherwise.

I hope this helps.
-Mitchell

Any chance I can get in contact with your TD-20 drummer so I can get some advice on how he tweaked the kits to his satisfaction?
