New discussion for NAW-T-BOY spun off from Settings for Ns6 and Two L1®s
I usually use a balanced 50 foot 1/4" to 1/4" to daisy chain my L1’s and set them on both sides of the head table
Since they are balanced I shouldn’t get any line noise correct?..even though the inputs on the compacts are unbalanced?
Hi Joe,
If you are talking about the Compacts …
- The ¼ inch jack line out on the back is balanced. (Source: Compact: Rear Outputs)
- Compact Channel 2 ¼ inch input jack is balanced

Thank You!!!
I guess you learn something new everyday!!
coming back to this thread…since this post I have switched to using Lin 6 g50 wireless transmitters to my compacts.
I am getting a very low buzzing sound.
I checked on their forums ad they said I shouldn’t be using balanced cables from the g50 since the output on it is unbalanced and the TRS cables are probably introducing the buzzing sound?
does that sound right ST?
I don’t have any unbalanced cables so i figured I would ask before I go out and buy some to test.
I would only be using at most a 3 foot cord from the receiver to the compacts

I don’t know one way or the other if this is the cause of the hum. But I would check some things before buying a different cable.
Does the hum persist if you leave the cable connected to the Compact but not connected to the G50 receiver? If there is no hum or the hum is lower when there is nothing connected to the cable (except the Compact) then I don’t think the issue is the cable.
Is there a power supply (wall wart thing) for the G50 receiver? If you unplug it, (I know the system will stop working) but does the hum go away? If it does then the hum is probably not coming from the cable from the receiver to the Compact, but from a ground-loop or a noisy power supply.
ST, i had the same problem and you tried to help me and we decided to blame it on line6. to avoid the buzz, i just use the aux out from the line6 receiver rather than the main out and i don’t get any buzz. i could try experimenting with the TS vs. TRS issue, or do further research but haven’t had the time yet. i just don’t use the main out on the receivers and everything works a-ok
