Connecting a Single T1 to (2) Model IIs

Hi folks,
How can I connect 2 Model IIs to a single ToneMatch engine?

I tried connecting one using the datalink cable, and then the second ModelII using a TRS from the Master 1/4" output on the TM to the 1/4" input on the powerstand. The problem is that it sounds as if I lose bass as I turn them both up together. What am I doing wrong?

Hi b7a4,

The connections are probably fine.

It sounds like you are getting Multiple Source Interference

Put all the B1s together or at put the L1®s with their B1s at least 20 feet apart.

Hi again b7a4,

If you are running the T1® from a computer using backing tracks in stereo check this out.

Click the picture below for full details on how to run two L1® Model IIs in stereo using your USB connection to the T1® to two Model II Power Stands.

Using a DJ mixer (denon mc6000). Outputting stereo signal and connecting Left channel to Channel 1 on TM. Connecting Right channel to Channel 2 on Tonematch, and setting it’s output to Aux, as described in the WikiLink.

I have a total of 3 B1…2 connected to left speaker and 1 connected to right speaker.

Realistically, I will not be able to keep the speakers 20ft away from each other. I have them separated about 7feet.

I tried stacking all subs in the middle: the 2 that are connected together on top of each other, and the other right next to them. Canceling out.

I tried making a stack of 3…probably worse canceling.

So I don’t think I’m having that “dual mono” phasing since the signal is stereo (not identical). This seems to be something between the subs?

I think you are right. You probably don’t need to have the B1s stacked together - or necessarily separated by 20 feet.

It sounds like you have things wired up correctly.

Is the bass response better if you keep the B1s with their respective L1®s (7 feet apart as you mentioned above)?

Does the bass response improve if you disconnect the single B1 from its power stand?

Are you using the blue Bose cables for the B1s?

Hi, b7a4,

How big is the room you are trying this in?

Bass does really weird things in small rooms, which can be misleading.

Are the B1’s between 4-7’ from any wall? If so, that is the WORST place to have them, because wall reflections will tend to cancel the primary sound – and even more so in a small room.

If this testing is in a small room, reserve your judgement on the B1’s and their placement until you get them into a ‘gig-sized’ room.

Gentlemen,
Please forgive my lack of response, since it has been a busy past few weeks.

First of all, I’d like to answer Dan’s question…yes, these were being tested in a small room…20’x20’

Since my initial test, I have now used them out in the field 7 times…indoor (large rooms) and outdoors. You were right Dan…bass does do weird things in small rooms.

I’ve been running from my Denon MC6000 straight to each speaker…in stereo.
I’ve been stacking 4 B1s underneath the table for sleek appearance. The 2 connected to each speaker sit on top of each other, so:
AB
AB
This is the correct way to do it, right? Not:
AA
BB
Where each letter is connected to each other?

Last question…I really would like to utilize my ToneMatch. If I plug it in to power using the powerblock (instead of datacable), is the MASTER knob on the T1 still used to control the volume, or is it controlled on the powerstand (whereas using the datacable disables control on the p-stand)?
