FIrst Sunday Service with new L1 1S system review

So we just had our first Sunday morning service with our new L1 1S system.  We went with the B1 sub and a T1 mixer.  Music consisted of one acoustic guitar and vocal followed by the pastor giving a message.  The system did a great job filling the room with sound.  There's a learning curve with this system I need to get over.  I'm not accustomed to having such a high level of clarity.  It's almost overwhelming at first being able to hear every nuance (and error) in the sound amplification.  Like most small church start-ups, I am not only the "sound guy" but also the guitarist and lead vocalist.  I'll definitely need to put more time in practicing on my guitar.  A huge improvement I noticed while listening to the pastor preach was how easy it is to listen.  That sounds odd, but our old guitar amp setup was so muddled that it was a strain to pay attention.  This morning was completely different.  I was able to easily pay attention and listen.  I also heard more people in the congregation responding to the message.  Overall, we're very pleased with the setup.  Setup and tear down was also a huge plus.  We were able to get everything setup this morning in about 15 minutes and tear down was even quicker.  I'm looking forward to seeing how much better this system gets as we learn to use it even more.

Hi Jim,

Great to hear from you. It sounds like you had a wonderful first time out.

The L1® is wonderful for intelligibility. I'm glad that you got to experience that.

I found out very quickly that we hear things with the L1® that we didn't hear before.

You can't fix what you can't hear. And now that you can, there's a lot od work to do. It's all good.

Enjoy.

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the forum. I followed your thread "Help with product selection, PLEASE" but as ST was giving you all the information you needed I didn't want to confuse the issue for you.

Thanks for coming back with your first "gig report".

In my opinion, you'll not find a better system for filling a room with than an L1 system. I'm glad that you're happy with this aspect of the L1S.

There's a learning curve with this system I need to get over.  I'm not accustomed to having such a high level of clarity.  It's almost overwhelming at first being able to hear every nuance (and error) in the sound amplification.

There's a learning curve with every system. I find, however that the T1 makes it much easier for beginners and non-experts to come to terms with getting a good well EQ'd sound out of the Bose L1 systems. And yes, you're right. Not only does it give you a really clear sound, the clarity also underlines any shortcomings you may have when playing or singing. I have found that this has helped me to play and sing with more definition than I did before using an L1 system.

Like most small church start-ups, I am not only the "sound guy" but also the guitarist and lead vocalist.  I'll definitely need to put more time in practicing on my guitar.

Yes, it does have that effect, but I see that as being a good thing.

The clarity of the way the Bose amplifies and easily carries the sound without the high sound pressure levels (SPL) needed by "normal" systems makes it easy on the ears. This, in turn, makes it easier to listen to and concentrate on what's being said. The fact that you "also heard more people in the congregation responding to the message" is proof of this.

Overall, we're very pleased with the setup.  Setup and tear down was also a huge plus.  We were able to get everything setup this morning in about 15 minutes and tear down was even quicker.  I'm looking forward to seeing how much better this system gets as we learn to use it even more.

I'm sure you're going to really love the system even more as you get used to using it. You may even find that the word gets around that your gathering has a really good sound with really good sounding music.

That's not a promise, but it wouldn't be the first time that something like that happened.

Please keep us informed of your progress and experience with your system, and I wish you much pleasure through hearing yourselves as you've never heard yourselves before. Hearing myself play through an L1 system always lifts my performance to another level when compared to other systems.
