Input power vs output power

I am looking at the specs for the Bose F1 812 speaker system. On the back of the cabinet it state 100-220 VAC 2.3/1.2 amps which is about 200 watts input power. However, you are advertising that the power output is 1000 watts. How can this be. Must be some kind of magic. Even at, say, 80% efficiency would require an input power of 1250 watts at maximum power of the speaker. I realize that you are using a Class D amplifier but this still does not add up. Would you mind explaining this discrepancy? I am looking to purchase a pair of F1 812 along with a pair of the match F1 subwoofer. They all have the same rating discrepancy. I am trying to setup the AC mains for the proper loading requirement for these four speakers.

Well, it looks as though no one has an answer. I called Bose and they do not have an answer. I emailed Bose and they told me to call technical support. So, basically, this question remains unanswered which leads me to believe that the advertised power ratings are all hype. I have seen some recent posts that seem to indicate that the F1 system is not really all that powerful and some have questioned the 1000 rating being advertised. On one call to Bose they recommended that I take a look at the L1 Model II as being better performance. I am now confused and a little disappointed.

I also have noticed that the newest F1’s being sold has changed the input rating from what it used to be - 110-220 VAC 2.3/1.2 amps - to now simply read 1000 watts. So how does a 200 watt input rating now turn into 1000 watts input rating without any changes made to the equipment design??? Something sounds fishy to me.

Hello John,

Thank you for your posts.

Stay tuned. Information is on the way; probably tomorrow.

Hello John,

Thank you for our interest in Bose Professional products! 2.3 – 1.2A is the average power pulled through the wall power represented in amperage. Presenting this rating in amperage is industry standard.
Our F1 marketing materials and web photos have a product label that states 100-240V ~ 50/60 Hz 1000W. That was an early rendering and shipping product has always stated 2.3 – 1.2A.
The 1000W rating is correct for F1 Model 812 as well as F1 Subwoofer.
