Is anyone using the iPad Camera Kit to connect to a T1®.
I’ve heard about people using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit to connect to a T1® through the T1® USB port.
I haven’t tried it personally.
If you’ve actually done this please let us know how that’s working for you.
Thanks!
PS - to all
If it does work, then here’s what you need to know at the T1® end of things.

Hi,ST…Ive tried it a few times,at home, but had a few glitches with it…so I never used it on the job.Dont know why,but every so often ,the
output from the Ipad will just drop out. Then I have to unplug the Ipad and re-boot it.I have been using the Ipad for gigging since November 2012 with the headphone jack to rca plugs, into channel 4 on the T1 with great results, but havent been brave enough to use the camera connector on the job.Maybe a software issue with the Ipad??
Hi jayare,
Thanks for the real-world input.
Consolidating several threads here:
One owner “dvmweb” reported that using the iPad Camera Kit disabled the iPad volume control for the signal being sent via USB.

I connected my iPad to the usb input on the Tonematch via the camera adpter kit. DON’T do this! The volume is uncontrolled and extremely loud. At least it was for me with a songbook I downloaded that had backing tracks. I thought I had wrecked the L1, but it was ok. I went back to the headphone output into channel 4/5 via a stereo line into 4 and 5. Scary.

an approach to resolving this would be
Try this on the T1®.
Run the USB from PC to Channel 4/5 and then you should be able to control the volume the way you are doing it now using the Channel 4/5 volume control.

Hi 6inline,
Thanks for this input.

I have used the camera connection kit to run usb to the T1 using Stage Traxx, Back Trax, and one other app I can’t remember. Each time, the app disabled the volume control on the ipad and defaulted to full volume.
If your usb is routed straight to the Master on the T1 I could see how you might experience very high volume. I route, as ST suggests, to ch 4/5 and even though the trim control is non-functional in this scenario, the volume is very controllable using the channel volume on 4/5.
Using the connection the (a digital connection) bypasses the T1® Trim control. The Trim control is there to match up a signal level from an analog source, and this function isn’t needed for a digital source.

The problem I have, as another member posted here, is that the connection from ipad to mixer gets dropped occasionally and required dis/reconnect to get it back. Thus, not a good option in a live setting. I have had to go back to the headphone out into 4/5 where it has been rock-solid, though noticeable less fidelity than the usb method.
Hoping for a remedy involving Apple, the app developers, or Bose which will address this issue.

I have been conecting my Mac G4 to the T1, via USB, since I bought the T1 in February and it often drops out.
I thought it was the fact that my laptop is five years old and running old software.
It’s interesting that similar issues are being experienced by users with other Apple kit.
Previously I connected to a Yamaha deck via the USB with no prblems at all.
I don’t really like using the jack input on the T1 because the signal is not as good with as the USB.
I have been recorded dozens of 2 channel multitrack podcast recordings in Garageband with the T1 via USB to/from MacBook Pro without any issue (i.e. no loss of connection or dropouts as described above).
I realize it’s not using the iPad Connection Kit, but I will be testing that soon with this setup, and I’ll report back.
Here is my setup (as ST describes above, and in Wiki T1 USB setups):
MacBook Pro 2012 running OSX 10.7.5
Garageband '09
T1 with current system software
USB to PC:
Left: Ch1 (Mic 1)
Right: Ch2 (Mic 2)
USB from PC:
Left: Ch4/5 (L - Backing Tracks/Sound FX/Bumpers)
Right: Ch4/5 (R - Backing Tracks/Sound FX/Bumpers)
I control mic input via Ch 1 & 2 on T1, and I control audio out of backing tracks from Garageband FOR HEADPHONE MIX via Ch 4/5 on the T1. Headphones are connected to Master Out and volume is controlled by T1 Master.
Master Out (Analog 1/4") via stereo cable to headphone amp, then to headphones.
Hi Shawn,
I’ll be looking forward to hearing how this works out for you.
Thanks!
Hi, I have been using my ipad 4 with the camera connection kit to the t1 . It keeps crashing and I have to restart the ipad. It works for a while then crashes. I have tried turning of notifications and using airplane mode. I then tried using a 1/8 stereo jack plug and got nothing. Puzzled as it works if I plug my headphones in. I have tried 3 different leads. I have left it for today to try again tomorrow with a fresh head. On a positive note the sound is excellent when it’s working also the sound of the l1 system is amazing on my acoustic and electric.
Hello Boab,
Welcome to the Forum!
Yes, I have successfully recorded 2 Track audio with the Bose T1 via Apple Camera Connection Kit (both 30 pin and lightning) into the iPad 2, iPhone 5, and iPod Touch 5 - all running iOS7 into several apps: Garageband, MultiTrack being the best for multi-tracking and monitoring. Not all apps are compatible (i.e. BossJock Studio for podcasting is not - yet!).
There is not an easy way to get audio from the T1 into an iOS device via the headphone jack, but the quality is much better via the camera connection kit, so I would focus on that.
Please see the following link for my equipment set-ups and apps that I’ve had success with atwww.themobilepro.net/nmx. The photos include the ART Dual Pre via 1/4" analog Main and Aux out to the 2 inputs on the ART, which I use to go into BossJock Studio for podcasting (BossJock recognizes the ART Dual Pre via USB, but not the T! for some reason)
I JUST set this up last week, but I have audio samples and tutorial videos coming soon for each of the 5 set-ups soon.
A couple of things to check:
A) Are you running iOS7 on your iPad4? If not, I highly recommend upgrading (it will also allow you to do 2 CH audio recording the power adaptor input)
B) What app are you using to record with?
I’m happy to help if I can, or I’m sure someone else will jump in. Let us know…
