posted a question on DJs & KJs about key changers for MP3 tracks…suggestions? most of those KJs probably have the all in one equipment, I just want to adjust a few tracks by 1 or 2 steps, for my solo work, and keep it as clean as possible…I would pay for quality, but I think I’m limited by the very nature of an MP3 right?
If you are talking about changing keys or slowing down a song file (mp3) … I use Song Surgeon. check out the website or youtubes for more info

It seems to vary somewhat with the mp3 track itself, even between brands.
I have heard some go up or down four semitones with out a problem, other tracks your lucky if you can go two semitones either way, without severe degradation. Sometimes going up is slightly cleaner than down, especially on male renditions of female songs where you go up and drop an octave.
VirtualDJ works nice on the fly, especially if you modify the “Mix Lab 3.1” skin to make the left and right “Pitch Buttons” “Key” up and down, since I don’t use pitch as it also changes speed, the key change works well and is convenient.
If I will usually do a track up or down, I will permanently modify it with Adobe Audition ( I think free Audacity works well also) and add U2 or D2 to the file name. I hate it when I forget to adjust the key and wind up straining a bit.
