L1 Compact Full Range Output?

If I use the 1/4 output, is it a direct Line Level Output, BYPASSING the inputs EQ such as Channel 1s BASS & TREBLE OR Chanel 2s TONEMATCH Preset.

I would like to hook the output of the Compact into another powered sub, and want to make sure it it is PRE-MIX, so I get a clean, full range, nothing altered signal, even if I have settings on the inputs on the L1 Compact…

Hi jaswrx,

To get a “full range, nothing altered signal,”…
If you’re powered sub supports it, run the source to the powered sub and take the full-range output from the powered sub to provide the signal to the Compact.

The Compact ¼ inch jack Tip-Ring-Sleeve Line Out is POST processing. It is affected by the Channel Volumes and as well as the position of the Channel One Tone controls (if you are using Channel One), and the position of the ToneMatch switch on Channel Two if you are using Channel Two.

The exceptions are the RCA and ⅛ inch inputs. These are band-pass replicas of what is provided at the input down to 30 Hz regardless of the position of the ToneMatch switch. If the ToneMatch switch is set to Line Level, the ¼ inch jack Tip-Ring-Sleeve input/output is also band-pass down to 30 Hz.

That is, there’s nothing below 30 Hz ever.

ok, so after reading the notes, confirm I have this right…

The LINE OUT OUTPUT on the COMPACT is POST MIX.

If I have the TONEMATCH PRESET ENGAGED ON CHANNEL 2, THE OUTPUT FROM THE 1/4 WOULD BE 60HERTZ SINCE THE TONEMATCH CUTS OFF AT 60 WITH THE PRESET ENGAGED (ACOUSTIC GUITAR). Of course this is only on Channel 2. Channel’s 1 input (if anything was connect) would still play according to it’s settings (EQ)

What about this idea?

I run the signal to my powered sub, and then to the Compact’s Channel 2, and engage the TONEMATCH PRESET, it would operate more efficiently since it would be cutting everything below 60hertz. This would be ideal with a Powered Sub underneath covering the low-end. No need to stress the Compact to cover those frequencies.

down to whatever frequency is determined by the microphone preset. There may be some low-end roll off to prevent mechanical rumble in the sub-vocal ranges. Bose has not published the details of the Preset.

The ToneMatch Preset on Compact Channel 2 is for acoustic guitar with a piezo pickup. Bose has not published the details, but I’m quite sure that there is more going on there than a simple band-pass above 60 Hz.

You’ll just have to try it and see if you like it.

I will let you know how it goes.

I normally run the TONEMATCH PRESET anyhow even with just direct music.

There is just a lot of mid bass around 80-100, and with the TONEMATCH engaged on Channel 2, it sounds much more natural, especially at Dinner time.

Gig went well.

They guitar preset doesn’t affect to much of the high end, but the slope at 60 hertz really helps the unit from clipping, and can play louder (although less bass).

I would definitely run this exact setup again for fill speakers.
