Hello,I have a qustion regarding an upcoming outdoor gig and would appreciate any input?
This will be a rather large (600-800) picnic at a farmground.I'm not sure yet if there will be a small stage or just setting up on the grass.
I use the L1 Sys2 B2. What I'm thinking of doing is:
Set up the sytem behind me (say 12') and then run a pair of speakers in front of me,one on the left and one on the right.I believe I'll have enough volume and the Bose can act as my monitor also.
I think I can use the Master out to run the 2 speakers?
Questions:
Is the master out Stereo?Balanced?And do I use Active or Passive Speakers?
Also,in between sets I'd like to keep the music going with my iphone or ipad. Should I connect the Iphone/ipad to one of the channels on the T1 or to the analog input on the Bose platform?

Please tell us about your show. If I remember correctly, you do a solo, acoustic oriented show: You and a guitar.
For a picnic, you might be fine with just the L1® with your B2. I've done events for 800 in a quiet park.
We had a couple of L1®s on the stage, but we never used two for any one sound source. So setup was probably similar to yours.

The T1® Master Output is balanced, mono.
You need active loudspeakers (or an amplifier and passive loudspeakers).

The T1® Channels 4/5 are designed to take a stereo output from a device like your iPhone or iPad. That's simplest. You can connect directly to the Model II Power Stand Analog input, but you have to set your iPad or iPhone to mono. Then you can use a 1/8" stereo to two 1/4" mono cable. Use only one of the 1/4" connections to the L1®.
I would greatly appreciate any input.

Steve, if you add two powered speakers to your setup, they would have to be very loud to project farther than an L1® Model II. The L1® might not be as loud close to the stage, but it will project surprisingly far.
If you can try your L1® outside, run some tracks through it from your iPod. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the result. And it might put your mind at ease about bringing more speakers to the gig.

the only outdoor event i've done as of yet was a block party about 3weeks ago.I set up on some ones front lawn and played for the people within a few houses only,because there was a dj at the other end of the block.
I am doing another block party prior to the large outdoor farm gig.So, that would be a good time to plug in the ipad and check out the volume.
Regarding your reply that "ch 4/5 are designed to take a stereo input from ipad". I have a 1/8" to 1/4" TR jack.Can I plug that into Ch 4 and just run my 1/8" cable into that and the other end into the ipad? If so,what do I set Ch 4 up for on the T1?
Your reply raised another question for me. Will there be a difference in the volume output between the ipad into the Bose base and my vocal/guitar sound through the T1?
Or should i expect the same volume output?
Thanks for the pics of your gig.I envision a similar scene but with picnic tables spread out.I'm hoping there will be some sort of stage platform.I'll find out the details tomorrow.I'm actually meeting the organizer at the site tomorrow. I'm also hoping for a tent or overhang because I use an ipad for song reference and the glare is a killer. Thank you for your input.

The paragraph above, extracted from your post, is not clear to me. Maybe it's just me, but the part about setting the player to mono, then connecting to two 1/4 mono cable only to use one of them, is not clear. If you have time could you include a picture of the suggested cable and a clarification if warranted?
Also,I checked out the Farm venue I'll be gigging at.It looks similar to the pic you sent of your outdoor gig.Except there will also be a smaller crowd at tables behind me. So,I think I may need to use the additional external speakers to point towards them. What do you think?
On a side note,in between my sets the customer is requesting a variety of music from the 1950's til current times. Can anyone recommend a site where I can build a set list of different types of music and play that or perhaps shuffle play?

It depends on the size of the area behind you. Have you heard your L1® from behind? You still get some sound at the back. It isn't as clear, but it might be okay for people who want to get away from the music.
If you've got some powered loudspeakers then bring them with you in case you need them.

Yes, T1® Channels 4/5 are mono balanced. However, the output of your iPod / iPad is not balanced. There's no benefit to using a cable like this:
and it won't work because presenting a stereo signal to a balanced mono input causes issues. Sound that is present in both channels is cancelled out.
