L1 Volume Control compared to F1 Model 812 Volume Control

I use a Bose L1 and an 812. I get plenty of volume form the L1 by only turning it up halfway. On the 812, I have to turn it up about 3/4 of the way or more to get enough sound. Is that normal? The L1 is 500 watts and the 812 is 1,000 watts. Shouldn't it be a lot louder?

Hi Danny,

Thank you for joining the Community. This is an interesting question.

The input sensitivity on the L1®s (Model 1S, Model II) is different than the F1 Model 812. Before getting into that let's fill in some details about what you are doing.

What model of L1® do you have?

Are you using a T1® or a mixer to connect to the L1® Power Stand?

What is the input source (microphone, instrument, backing tracks)?

For the F1 Model 812

What is the input source (microphone, instrument, backing tracks)?

Thanks,

ST

I do an acoustic single act.I use a Mackie Pro efx stereo board, a Bose L1 Model II, and a recently purchased 812. From the board, one output goes to the L1 and the other to the 812. I set the volume at 12:00 on the L1 and it is perfect. I have to turn the volume on the 812 up to 3:00 to get a balance. That seems odd to me.

Hi Danny,

Thanks for all the great information.

I understand why you're concerned. There's nothing wrong here. The controls on the F1 Model 812 were not calibrated to match the L1® so things will look different.

Here's what you can do.

  1. Set the L1® Model II Analog input trim to about 10 o'clock.
That's a closer match to the input sensitivity on the F1 Model 812.

  2. Set the F1 Model 812 volume control to 12 o'clock.
You'll have to fine tune the setting on the Model II trim so that the volume is a  better match for what you hear from the F1 Model 812.

  3. You may want to increase the output from the Mackie Pro efx stereo board.

Does that help?
