Lighting for a Wedding

Doing some research on lighting options for an upcoming wedding gig and would like to get some input from the Bose community on what has worked for others.

What we have today:

  • One light tree stand (On Stage Stands)
  • Chauvet Circus effect light
  • Chauvet Eclipse
  • Venue Thin Par 64 LED (2)

We don’t have any DMX controller, just put the on auto or in the case of the Circus in sound activated mode. The Circus is pointed at the dance floor, the Eclipse at the ceiling and the pars at the band for stage wash lighting.

For the few times we’ve used them it has worked out ok but those weren’t weddings either.

Goals:

    • Add in some type of DMX controller
    • None or limited DMX programming
    • Incorporate the lights I already have
    • Add in wash lights to be placed in the venue for uplighting
    • Upgrade the stage lighting, perhaps more uplighting
    • Budget not to exceed $750

      The Venue:

      • Medium sized gym.
      • They don’t have any lighting we can use.

One of the singers in the band can probably do some level of light control from the controller. Pushing a preset button(s) is probably preferred over working the faders although realize that some active management of the controller gives us more option too.

I guess it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. As a solo entertainer, and as a previous band leader, I never got caught up in the “light Show” perspective. I use a Chauvet 4Bar LED System now. When I had my group I just used 2 rack lighting system with a foot controller. (4 300 watt spots per rack). It’s all about the music, the lighting I use is just so the audience can see me. Good luck with what you decide. Dave
