I presently have a L1 Model ll with 2 B1 bass modules. I’ve had this for about 3 years but I really need a backup. When I firt purchased it I tried to purchase a L1 Model ll power stand and was told it wasn’t available by it self. Now I am thinking about buying the L1 1S as a back up. My questions is, will the tower from the L1 Model ll work with the 1S? Also will the two B1 Base Modules work with the 1S power stand? I’m just interested in having a spare power stand.

Like the Model II, the Power Stand for the Model 1S is not available for purchase by itself.
The Cylindrical Radiator® (the tower) is not interchangeable between the Model 1S and the Model II.
Your two B1 Modules will work with the Model 1S.
Reflecting on our previous conversation, I still think that the L1 Compact could be a very good solution for you.

Thank you ST. I was afraid the Compact wouldn’t be powerful enough and the sound difference would be to great. The L1 Model ll is advertised to handle 500 people and is 250 watts times 2. I haven’t seen specs in these terms to compare with the L1 Model ll.
1 on the Compact. As a backup, it would bail you out of most situations, at a low cost.
It might not be perfect, volume-wise, but I’m sure your audience would understand.

They actually sound pretty similar until you reach the limits of the Compact. The Compact seems to have more presence than its larger cousins when you are really close to it, but out in the audience, it’s not all that different.

It’s really hard to correlate watts to performance with these systems. It’s like trying to correlate horsepower to mileage in different classes of vehicles. Without taking into account all the other factors like class of vehicle, driving conditions, and driver behavior, you can’t predict the outcomes in a meaningful way.
I think (this is me not Bose talking) that you can definitely get these kinds of numbers or better in quiet concert settings: Model II - 500 people, Model 1S - 300 people, Compact - 100 people. Bose matches the power to the size of the speaker array and bass subsystems. The length of the speaker array has a lot to do with the distance you can reasonably cover, and that gives us a sense of how many people we can reach. Your Model II has 24 drivers in the speaker array. The Model 1S has 12, and the Compact has 6.

You’re right: The Model 1S would be a drop-in replacement for your Model II for your shows when you’ve got 100 people. And the Compact could do very well as a backup in a pinch (true backup situation where something has happened to your Model II).
Rolling back around to the backup situation where a Model II has failed. You might want to call Bose to see how fast they can do an exchange on a remanufactured Model II Power Stand. That can be much faster than a repair, but it’s a little more expensive.

Wow! Lot’s of info and I am very thankful. I was originally leaning to the F1 812 but then I thought I may add the Sub as well. I knew it was close for the annual Bose sale and was hoping the F1 would be included but I was wrong. I guess it’s to new. Anyway, than you again, now I just need to make a decision!
Well I ended up purchasing the L1 Compact to be used as a backup in case my L1 Model II fails. Thanks for all the direction on this!

Thanks for letting us know the outcome. I can’t really see you regretting the decision, and you may find that you’ll use the Compact not only as a back-up, but also for the odd gig where you don’t necessarily need the “muscle” of the L2.
