Need input on best setup for Trio with external amps

I have a Trio and am considering an L1 model 2 with B2 sub to replace a sub and Mackie srm350 placed behind the Trio.

The Trio consists of:

- acoustic guitar plugged into a Fishman Loudbox Artist amp.
- electric bass plugged into a Mark Bass 2x10 amp.
- percussion rig consisting of a Cajon, a Djembe, a snare and cymbal.
- 3 vocal mic’s.
- a Behringher x32 mixer

The amps are connected to the mixer.
The percussion rig is mic’ed. 1 mic on the Djembe, 1 shared for the Cajon and snare.

The amps are placed and aimed at the performer to act as a monitor. The level sent to FOH is balanced to be the same as the FOH level.

The Tiro plays mainly smaller clubs both indoors and out.

Would 1 L1 Model 2 and B2 sub be sufficient or is 2 a better bet?

Given most stages are on the small side front to back, would placement behind the Trio or behind and on the side of the Trio work best?

Any other input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi estring,

Thank you for joining the Forum.

It sounds like you’ll be a replace the Mackie with the L1® Model II with B2 with no problems with respect to the way you’ve got things wired up now. You’ll need to get a mono, balanced output from the Behringer X32 to connect to the Model II. That shouldn’t be an issue with all the routing options in the X32.

The Model II with B2 probably takes less room than the tripod stand on which you placed the Mackie. The Model II with B2 is about 26" from front-to-back and 33" wide.

Ideally you’ll place the Model II with B2 behind the Trio, but even if you are on a shallow stage and you have to put it to the side, you should still be able hear it.

Does that help?

Thanks for the reply and yes it does help.

You are correct, we will be replacing the Mackie with the either a single or two complete L1® Model II with B2 systems. If we go with two systems then based on everything I have read I would start with guitar and guitar vocals panned somewhat left. Bass vocals panned somewhat right. Bass guitar and Cajon panned center. Djembe / snare mic panned center. Percussion vocals panned slightly right.

Most of the time our stages are shallow so placement on the side. If there is room, placement in the rear of the Trio. Make sense?

Hi estring,

With respect to the panning, that’s an area for experimentation. When I set up with the my L1®s behind the band I pan each source to one (only one L1®). This works extremely well.

Here are some more ideas for you to explore.
