First of all, let me reassure you that we got the system working in time to start the gig on time. Second, I should mention that the problem was operator error, not equipment failure.
Here’s what happened.
At a corporate gig last night there were three of us running like this:
Three of us were in the back corner.
2 x Guitar / Vocals (Model II and Classic, both with T1®s. one B1 each)
1 x Electric Bass (shared the Model I). He was a last minute addition to the show.
At five minutes to showtime in front of a room full of people, I look over and see my buddy looking really puzzled and twisting knobs on his T1®. He’s unhappy because he is using a Scene that he uses all the time and the sound is all bass. I should explain that he has a really really deep bass voice anyway so we can tell that something is wrong but it’s not screamingly obvious what.
He starts working the zEQ on his T1® to increase the highs and decrease the lows, but that’s already there in the Scene, and he dials in some pretty extreme settings and things just don’t improve.
I run over to his L1® and put my ear to the Cylindrical Radiator®s. Nothing! Okay, so now I’m thinking, it’s a good thing that I still have a Compact in the car.
After a bunch of troubleshooting, (power off, power on, light is green, try a different channel on the Power Stand, re-inserting the Cylindrical Radiator®s in the Power Stand) I decided to check the amps. This something you can only do on a Classic this way.
I removed the Cylindrical Radiator® and then I moved the B1 cable to Amp1 out and I could still hear my buddy “testing testing” coming from the B1. Then I moved the B1 cable to Amp2 out and I could still hear him, “1,2,3” , again, from the B1.
Okay - so now I KNOW that the amps are working so I looked into Power Stand boot where the Cylindrical Radiator® goes.
Nothing unusual there, so I looked at the Cylindrical Radiator® bottom section that goes into the boot. Sure enough, the silver bar that attaches to the Cylindrical Radiator® is bent.
edit: Here is a picture I took of that bent bar a couple of days later.
It appears to have been bumped severely in transit. I’ve never seen this happen before, but it’s clear that the bent bar is preventing the Cylindrical Radiator® from seating properly so the connectors aren’t connecting.
It’s a minute before show time and I’m using a borrowed screwdriver to remove the silver bar. I then put things back together and we’re in business and ready to go.
I’m sorry - I didn’t have time to take a picture of the damaged bar. Edit: but I have added pictures of who it’s supposed to look. Edit: added a picture of the actual bent bar. Last photo in this post.
