I purchased a used set of L1, M2's and also received the B2's.
The B2's are a bit scratched up on the edges and I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas about possibly sanding the scratches or any other solutions. I even contacted Bose about replacing the plastic end caps (tops and bottoms) of the B2's. They explained that there is no part available to purchase.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I am a wedding dj and appearance means quite a bit to me.
Hi Scott,
I'd take them to a reputable auto body repair shop and see if they have any suggestions. You can also do a search on the web for "repair deep scratches in plastic".
I would prefer to hear what other people have done with scratches on their B2.
Taking it to a autobody repair shop would not be very cost effective, in my opinion but thank you for the suggestion.
Here is what I would do:
1. Any scores or scratches need to be either:
(a) Sanded out with a fine or medium grade emery paper to a smooth even surface. Or ....
(b) For deeper scores use a resin based filler which will require sanding as above when set. The filler would need to be black or dark grey which limits choice but a Product called 'Liquid Metal' comes to mind, there may be others.
2. All scuffed and previously sanded areas (see above) need to be rubbed again with superfine emery and/or fine grade steel wool and finally polished with a polishing paste and buffer (a Dremel tool is useful for this but it can be done by hand), metal polish is good for finishing too.
3. Last of all you may want to give it a coat of 'Back to Black' or similar product used in the Auto trade to restore plastic parts.
Should be almost good as new after that. I would suggest that you extend the final rub and polishing over a larger area or even the whole part so that no obvious treated areas stand out.
Thanks for that. I have decided to use a fine toothed file. Then add some heat to smooth things out.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Hi Scott. How did you go fixing your end caps? I've got some MB4's that are pretty scratched up & was wondering if there's a way to fix them.
Cheers, Lee.
