Tonematch presets

I recently purchased a L1 Model ll system with Tonematch.I play at my own Irish pub with my wife.We run a Shure PG 58 mic and a EV RE-2 410 wireless mic,an epiphone acoustic guitar and a laptop with backing tracks. I was wondering which presets I should use for the mics and guitar.I am having some feedback issues with the EV wireless and are not getting a full sound from that mic.I am using a EV N/D357 preset for the wireless and a Shure SM58 for the other mic. I am using a Taylor T5 preset for the guitar. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi moose,

Welcome to the forum!

The presets customize an EQ curve and optimize the system’s zEQ for the selected instrument or microphone. If a particular instrument or microphone does not have an associated preset, you will find general-use presets at the start of most preset banks. For example, the first few “Vocal Mic” presets are for general use. I would suggest trying these general presets first.

That being said, even if the product you are using has an associated preset, there might be a different preset that sounds better to you. So, scroll through all the presets for the device type you are using and see which preset’s sound you prefer. Whatever sounds best to you is the preset to use.

The feedback you are experiencing, however, could be caused by a number of things. To help avoid feedback it is important to be sure the trim controls are set properly. If you haven’t already, follow these steps to set the trim for each channel:

1. Set the Master, Channel, and Trim controls to zero.
2. Sing or play at the loudest level that you would during a performance.
3. While playing, slowly turn the Trim control clockwise until the signal/clip indicator shows red. Then turn the knob the other way to keep the light from showing red. The idea is to have the trim control as high as it can be without the indicator turning red.

You can also try positioning the microphone so it is not pointed at the L1 tower. This will keep the microphone off-axis from the speaker arrays and could reduce potential feedback.

If you are still getting feedback, another step to try would be to use the Para EQ to zone in on and turn down a frequency that might be causing feedback.

Thanks Bob for the quick response.I cant wait to try it out. One more question, what should the trim setting be on the main L1 model 2 unit?
thanks
Moose

The trim knob on the Model II powerstand only applies to the Analog Input jack on the powestand. If there is nothing connected to that jack, set the knob to zero. If there is something connected to that jack, adjust the knob the same way you would adjust the trim knobs on the T1 as described above.

Thanks!

Oh ok that makes sense.Thanks

I play at an Irish pub and we have a large outside patio. How do i hook up a speaker outside so that the people on the patio can hear the music. There is already a speaker cable from the outside to the inside stage area. Can I use a powered speaker to control the volume on the outside or do I have to use a regular speaker.

Hi moose,

If you are looking to connect a remote speaker, the most straight-forward approach would be to use the master out jack of your Tonematch engine. Since it is a line-level output, you would need to use a powered speaker, or connect it to an amplifier first. The connection can be done with a 1/4" cable.

Thanks for your post, and let us know if you have any more questions.
