Wireless microphone

Hi all

I am a Zumba Instructor using for my sessions the L1 Compact system. Now for some of my courses (Strong by Zumba) I need a Wireless (Sport-) microphone to explain during the dance sessions the various movements. Zumba Music is very loud 🙂 and when using my microphone I get some serious interferences. Is there any possibility to avoid these (without lowering the volume) or any there any specific Wireless (Sport-)microphone compatible with the L1 system

thanks for any help

What kind of microphone are you using now?

Please say more about the "serious interferences" you are experiencing. I'd like to understand the problem better.

Thank you,

Hi

for the time being I am practising with the "SAMSON CR77 UHF true Diversity Receiver together with the AH1 Samson (CH E3) Wireless microphone" -- a device used quite a lot in the Sport environment.

To explain any choreography I'm using the microphone while the music is playing. So as the volume of the music is mostly to the upper level, when giving the instructions through the microphone, interferences appear(acoustical feedback). To avoid these biiiiiiiiiiip noise, the volume is to be turned down to less than half, but then my audience won't appreciate.

Hope this additinal explanation will help

thanks

Hi Marco,

From your description, you are experiencing acoustic feedback.

Feedback occurs when the sound from the L1® Compact is louder at the microphone than the sound of the voice.

This is shown in the diagram below. Note that in the diagram an L1 system is shown but the same fundamental fact is true for ANY loudspeaker.

Microphone Feedback

If you understand this diagram, it is relatively easy to understand how changes in an amplification system and the room can contribute to either increasing or decreasing the likelihood of feedback.

I looked up your microphone, the Samson AH1 and it appears to be well suited to your task. You need to wear it so that the microphone is a close as possible to your mouth.

You may need to move the L1® Compact so that it is farther away from the microphone.

Do you have a photo of the room showing where you place the L1® Compact and where you normally Zumba in relation to it?

Hi Marco,

I own Compacts & use sports headsets a bit for our outdoor events.   What I would suggest it to locate the Compact off to the side so it's closer to your participants & further away from you.   Perhaps angled at 45 degrees   That type of headset is good in that it's a large diaphragm but the problem is that it's also a condenser type mic.   For this sort of thing I normally go for a dynamic.  The only one I know of is the Shure WH20.  I have a couple & they work well.  Fortunately they're not too expensive.   I'm not sure if they're compatible with a Samson pack though.

Hope this helps.

Lee.

Thanks for this explanation and the drawings

I have changed the position of the amplification system and it seems to work (no feedback occurred)

thanks at lot

Hi Lee

thanks for your detailed explanation. I investigated on the Shure system, but it seems that it is not compatible with my Samson receiver system. Anyway I have changed the position of the L1 Compact and now it works

thanks for your help

Hi marco,

Great news about the feedback solution. Thanks for coming back to tell us that you're okay.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the interesting question.

I have a Customer looking for a portable wireless mic to be used with the S1.

There are lots of wireless microphone systems available from Shure, Sennheiser and other microphone system manufacturers. To my knowledge, none of them use Bluetooth.

Has there been any discussion about changing the Bluetooth input to include a mic level signal (for longer bluetooth battery performance) and adding tone controls to the Bluetooth / 3.5 mm input?  Thanks, Dan

Bluetooth will have too much latency for a microphone in a live music setting.  Please see Bluetooth for Live Monitoring

The third input on the S1 Pro is an Auxiliary input. It was engineered from the outset to amplify a sound source without modification.  It's assumed that all signal processing will be done at the source.

You can use a wireless microphone solution and connect the receiver to channels 1 or 2.

Does that help?

I hope that I’m not starting to sound like a broken record, but I’ve been using (and just used it at my daughters wedding with our S1) the Xvive U3 wireless mic system. Not knowing your complete requirements not sure this will work for you, but it certainly is something to consider.

It plugs into any dynamic mic via a XLR connection. There is a version that supports condenser mics now too. Low latency, very transparent, 100 feet range, and plugs into any of the 2 S1 channels where you can take advantage of its EQ controls.

You can refer to this forum discussion to review first hand experiences with the U3. Also click here for a rather extensive review of it if you have any further questions.

It's not like that for someone reading your helpful responses for the first time. And although I'm here a lot, I'm always grateful when you take time to help a fellow Bose system owner.

LOL ST! Thanks for your kind words.

@CityFolk   I've had such good results with the U3s I have that I'm ordering one of the new U3 sets with Phantom Power to try out with my KMS105.

Best of all worlds:

KMS105 - U3 to 1002d Mixer, Battery powered pedals U2 to mixer, Mixer 2 U3s to 2 S1s -- all rechargeable batteries for hours...

@Chet very cool do let us know what you think of the phantom power version. I wondered whether that would reduce its battery life since it has to supply power of some sort.

My wife and I performed a song for my daughters first dance with her new hubbie at her wedding on Sunday. We could’ve used the DJ’s system but it was geared to rock the house not transmit clear acoustic guitar and voice. So we used our S1 with the U3 on a Shure Beta 58. As one of my malapropistic friends would say “there wasn't a dry seat in the house”! ??
