At a loss for requirements

I have one compact that has performed excellently in our small venues (60 to 80 people, small room). We (bass, drum, guitar, tracks to fill in sound) now have opportunity to perform every other month in a large ballroom for 300 give or take.  The problem is we can not afford currently to upgrade to larger Bose systems which is our ultimate goal.  We do however have access to two large powered speakers and out T1 tone match.  Can we utilize them in a decent system so we can earn what is needed to do the upgrade properly? If this is in the wrong place sorry.

thank you.

Hi, John,

Terrific.

Opportunity knocks!

You can use your T1 and L1 Compact as you have been only now, it will be for monitoring, so you can hear yourselves perform.

Can we utilize them in a decent system so we can earn what is needed to do the upgrade properly? If this is in the wrong place sorry.

thank you.

You can

  1. Connect the T1 to the L1 Compact
    • Use the Compact to hear yourselves on stage
  2. Connect the L1 Compact Line Out (on the back) to the powered loudspeakers
    • Use the powered loudspeakers to reach your audience

If you need more details, please give us a link to the owner's manual for the powered loudspeakers.

Thanks,

ST

Thank you that is generally what I thought would be the case.  One last part (b) to the first question.  I know the quality will be different using other than Bose but will the tweaking and effects of the T1 tonematch play through the additional non Bose speakers.  We so much like the ease of setting adjustments.

again thank you for the quick response  it has made our day!

I have often used my T1 and L1 Compact and with third-party PA systems. I am super comfortable with the T1 and I have often use the ability to create a separate mix (Aux) to send to the third-party system, but that was because that third-party system was sophisticated enough to have its own effects and EQ. If you want to read more about that see

If the third-party powered loudspeakers don't have effects or sophisticated EQ, you might be fine connecting the L1 Compact Line Out to the powered loudspeakers.  Go easy on the reverb. You may want to hear some reverb in the monitors, but it's probably not necessary (and possibly counter-productive) to send reverb into a large room. That's another reason to learn about the Aux output. There's no reverb in the Aux output.

Going back to the simple connection (L1 Compact Line Out to the powered loudspeakers), here is an excerpt from an article

T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine without the L1

Should you or should you not use a ToneMatch preset when using the T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine with other systems?

ToneMatch® presets optimize the sound of a microphone or instrument when used with an L1 system. So this might lead you to conclude that a ToneMatch preset shouldn't be used with other systems.

But that wouldn't be quite right.

If that other system had a similar "voicing" or tonal response as the L1 then you would expect the ToneMatch® preset to be of value with that other system.

There are potentially a class of systems that fit this description. The L1 system is voiced to make high quality commercial recordings sound the best we know how. Some studio systems are voiced the same way, as they are where those recordings were mixed.

Thus, on some studio systems, you should expect ToneMatch® presets to be of value.

Other systems, including PA speakers and monitor speakers are voiced in an almost random and widely varying way, in our experience. Thus, it's impossible to say whether a ToneMatch® preset will help or hurt.

We so much like the ease of setting adjustments.

I'm glad you are enjoying the T1. I do too.

Happy to help.
