I have some chalet battery powered lighting that has a magnetic base. Would I be damaging the speakers or impacting the sound/performance if I mounted the lights to the speakers using the magnetic base of the light?
Any time you put a magnet near a speaker it can affect the response of the speaker, and in some cases it's actually possible to alter the magnetic properties of speaker magnets. I probably wouldn't risk that, especially with a magnet strong enough to hold a light mounted near small speakers.
You also have the possible issue of added weight to the speaker column. There are some speaker column lighting mounts that you can get, some sponsored by Bose, some not. I have some for my L1 Compact that mount in the rear track, but are not supported. The designer says that it's fine to mount two on a crossbar to his mount but I think that's too much. I just use one and I modified it to center the weight better. But again, Bose doesn't support that one.
A better idea is to get one of those photograph background setups with the low profile dual tripod mounts that have a crossbar between them and are sold in heights varying from 6' to 10' high and 5' to 10' across in sections. These make for great band banner or backdrop display holders behind the band and as the crossbar bolts typically extends another 1/4" or so through the crossbar they can be used to mount a small LED light on top of each tripod with the typically pre-existing yoke mounting hole. I have a pair of Chauvet LED Jrs that work great for this (about 2# - 3# each).
Hope this helps,
Jeff
Hi Dave,

That sounds harmless however, Bose does not recommend mounting anything to the L1® Cylindrical Radiator®, the L1® Compact, or the F1 Model 812 and F1 Subwoofer.
