Aux out of Pro 8

Bose product name L1 Pro 8

Hi all,

If I send a signal from the Aux Out, XLR of the Pro8, is the volume fixed or does it go up and down with the input volume? The manual says it's "post fader" so I assume if I turn up my source signal, the Aux Out will go up too?

I have two Pro 8 speakers for my piano. I'm going to use the Aux Out to go to the PA board in stereo. I want the volume going through the mains to go up and down with my volume slider on the keyboard.

Thanks 😃!

Hello L Batchelor,

"The manual says it's "post fader" so I assume if I turn up my source signal, the Aux Out will go up too?"

Yes, if you turn up the source signal at the keyboard slider, the signal going to the Pro8 will go up, and pass through to the Aux out.  Also, if you turn up the channels on the Pro 8's, that will also affect the Aux out signal.  You have the control at your fingertips, either way.

A couple of notes:

  • I have seen a few comments about the Aux out's on the  L1 Pro series sending a pretty "hot" signal.  If you're going XLR-XLR to a mic input on the PA board, you might need insert -10dB or -20dB pads to keep the signal from overdriving the inputs.  You may need to go XLR to 1/4" into line-level inputs.  You'll just have to test to see which works best for your board and sound.
  • You might use two direct boxes (or a two-channel direct box) to tap your keyboard signals before they go to the Pro8's.  The Pro8's Aux out's include any ToneMatch presets and EQ settings -- it depends on whether your sound man wants those in his mix.

Does that help?

Hi Fish-54,

Many thanks for the help! Sorry for the late reply, but I don't receive an email indicating someone replied to my question. Otherwise, I would have chimed back sooner 😉. There must be a setting for that but I can't find it. There are a few odd things about this forum design compared to others.

Yes, your reply was a great help. I just got hired to play keyboard for an excellent R&B band. I was using my Compacts in stereo but was running them to their limits. My Compacts were 9 years old, so I decided to upgrade to two Pro 8s. I'll be practicing with this band in another week. To keep stage levels reasonable, I'll send a stereo signal from the Bose to the PA board, hence, my question about the Line Out XLR.

I know a lot of keyboardists use mono keyboard amps but I hate them. The modern keyboard samples are very well designed but often sound cheesy through mono amps. I also play in a jazz trio and two other duets, where I supply sound. The Compacts served me well but I suspect the Pro 8s will be an enormous improvement. Thanks again!
