B1 or B2 modification

Hi. I own a L1 Model II with B2 I use for mostly DJing. I also am working up a musical act and in my rehearsal area I have two Behringer 12" speakers which do not have the bass response I want. I have been so impressed with my Bose system, I was wondering if there was a way I could buy a B1 and modify it so I can use it with my Behringers. Then I could also use it in conjunction with my B2 when I DJ. Problem is Bose has the B1 & B2 module feed the power through their cable.

Basically I would like to modify a B1 to receive power through an added jack as well use it with the Bose L1 system and their cable. Anyone done something like this?

Thanks

Hi Reezer,

Thank you for joining the Forum.

This is an interesting question, thanks for asking.

Background for those reading along:
The B1 and B2 bass modules are passive. There are no amplifiers built-in. The amplifier that drive the bass modules are in the Model II Power Stand.

If you want to use a B1 without a Bose Power Stand, you need an external amplifier like the Bose A1 PackLite to run it, or provide a signal from a powered mixer.

What device are you using to power the two Behringer 12" speakers? I’m asking so I can figure out if there is a way to drive a B1 from that device.

The Model II Power Stand can support one B2 or two B1s. If you have a B2 attached to a Model II Power Stand then to add an additional B1, you would need an A1 PackLite amp. But I’ve tried this, and the B2 is so loud compared to the B1, you probably wouldn’t notice much difference. If you are looking for more bass when you are DJ’ing then you would an A1 PackLite amp and a second B2.

Does that help?

Wow, thanks for your timely help!
Yeah, since I am new to the L1, I figured out pretty quickly these speakers are passive. But what you are saying is with this Packlite, I could power a B1 or B2 without the Bose Power Stand, correct?

The Behringers are powered speakers. They are running directly off a Soundcraft mixer. Any suggestions here?

Thanks so very much. I appreciate you and this forum.

Correct.

Does the Soundcraft mixer have a subwoofer output or a way to send a band-pass 40-200 Hz output?

The B1 is does not have built-in crossover. You need to send a signal in this range 40-200 Hz to the A1 PackLite Amp and then connect that to the B1. If you don’t have a way to do that inside the Soundcraft mixer, then you’ll need to get an external crossover.

You are welcome.

Here’s another idea that won’t cost you anything but a little time. The idea is to find out how your SoundCraft/Behringer set up sounds when you add a B1. (an approximation)
Take a line out from the SoundCraft mixer to your Model II Power Stand Analog Input. Set the Intput Trim to about 3(roughly 10:00 o’clock). This is a good place to start. You can turn this up later if you need more volume.

Connect your B2 the way you normally do. Set the B2 Bass Level Switch to (-) (minus). This is close to the sound of a B1.

You don’t need the Cylindrical Radiator® attached. It’s okay, you won’t harm anything doing this.

You’re using the Model II Power Stand in place of an A1 PackLite Amp. The Model II Power Stand has a built-in EQ.

If you like what you hear, then you can keep doing that in the basement and save the expense of getting an A1 PackLite amp and crossover.

Try it. What do you hear?

That is an simple and cost effective solution, only I don’t want to have to unload and load my DJ trailer with gear. But it’s a good idea and will work until I can afford a solution.

You have been a tremendous help, and I certainly appreciate you!

Thanks
