I am in the market to purchase a Portable PA system that serves a large crowd. Friends and peers suggested the Bose F1 Model 821 with the F1 Subwoofer kit was a wise choice. I was just wondering; if the F1 Subwoofer is connected to the F1 Model 821 in the Sub-Out configuration, what is the role of the 12" woofer built into the F1 Model 821's job? Does it work on the lower-mids or just mimics the F1 Subwoofer? Also, I want to know how the 1000w of amplification in the F1 Model 821 split from the tweeters/midrange-drivers and the 12" woofer.
In overall comparison, would you rather prefer the Bose F1 Model 821 with F1 Subwoofer combo or the Bose L1 Model II with B2 Bass Module, purely based on the sound quality?

The F1 812 has an EQ switch above the line output for use with the F1 subwoofer (pictured below). When the switch is set to 'with sub', this activates a high-pass filter on the 812 loudspeaker, so only the F1 subwoofer is handling the low frequencies. With this setup, the 812 loudspeaker only handles the low-mid to high frequencies, giving more clarity to the overall sound.
A key difference between the F1/812 and L1 model II/B2 systems is the way they disperse sound. The F1 system is technically capable of louder volumes with a higher maximum SPL, but the L1 system will likely carry sound further.
Typically, the L1 system is more commonly used by performing musicians, and the F1 system is more commonly used by DJs as a sound system.
