Bose Free Space DXA - Amp Fault!

We have a Bose Free Space DXA 2120 and are getting the following error message when we turn the volume up (to above 70 Db's) we get the error. They are attached to two sets of the omni free space pendant 3 - speakers.

We've been able to isolate the issue to one set of the omni speakers and even with a brand new Bose Free Space DXA 2120 we still get the Amp Fault ! error.

Anyone know how we can isolate the sound wire from the speaker to find the source of the issue?

Or any idea what could be causing the speaker or wire to create this issue?

Hello ScottSoko,

Sorry to read you experiencing issues.
And thank you for your pre-investigation.

Can you tell us how the FS3 and DXA2120 are connected?
Could you send some photos of the FS3 and DXA2120?

Perhaps the FS3 is set to Lo-Z and connected to the Hi-Z of the DXA2120.

How would I check/change the setup on the DXA2120 from Hi-z to Lo-Z? How would I check/change the setup on the FSA?

I have two FS3 setups that are identical and until recently they were performing identically.  Now one works great and the other is creating issues. If I unplug the FS3 with issues the system/setup works great.

I tried changing which output from the DXA goes to which speaker. swapping the effected speaker from output 1 to output 2 doesn't change anything. The working FS3 operates fine regardless of which output it is connected.

The FS3's are connected via the output jacks in the back of the DXA. One connects to output 1 and the other via output 2. They have identical configurations on the speakers and connected sound cables. The connections have been stable for the past 2 years with no issues.

I'll also add that the impacted FS3 is operating at about 10-15 db's lower than the working version and when sound pushed turned up above 70's on the non-working FS3, the DXA indicates that there clip and triggers the error.

Hi ScottSoko,

Yes, please share your wiring method at the speaker and at the amp.

You mentioned you isolated this to one set of FS3 omnis. An amp fault could be created when tying to drive high impedance from 8-ohm output (with no jumpers), though normally the result is very little to no sound at all before a fault. You want to make sure you're using the correct speaker presets (EQ) from the amp as well.
If you're in the US, you can contact us directly. I'll send you a private message. Though, please share this info on this site here as well.

Thank you,

Hi ScottSoko,

From your description, if both speakers are wired correctly, and both amp outputs are wired and working correctly with a working FS3, the issue is certainly with the speaker. Please arrange to exchange this with us, or with your local Bose rep.

Thank you,

Following up on this to close out the thread. The issue was located and appears to have been due to faulty speaker wire. We've replaced the wire and all seems to be working correctly now.
