Bose Portable Home Speaker problem with Alexa

Bose Portable Home Speaker

Apple iPhone X

Detailed description of the issue and steps to reproduce

It connects to the wifi and can play music, either by pressing the play button, or by using the Alexa app on the phone, but it won't respond to "Alexa" commands.  Just displays the amber lights at the top and bottom whenever we say "Alexa". Also, the mic mute button is off (not red). In the Alexa app, when I select it, it has a banner that says "Device Offline.  Some settings may not be available".  Communications is listed as "Enabled".

What environment do you experience the issue in? (e.g. noisy office, quiet kitchen, etc.)

Quiet

When did you start to experience the issue? Did it work correctly previously?

Just noticed it this morning. We query it daily when we wake up for time, weather.

Any troubleshooting steps you took

I have reconfigured the device using the Bose Music app.  I have removed it and re-added it.  I have set the Voice Assistant to be Alexa.  It appears to respond to the word "Alexa" (turns on the amber lights) but does not respond.   Wheras saying something like "Hey Google" does not cause any lights (because that one is not the configured VA).  Also, I updated the Bose Music app, and re-tried all the steps again, but still unsolved.

I'm torn between deleting my post or replying.  I figured out how to do the factory reset (bluetooth and buttons for 10s) and then re-configured from there.  Alexa voice commands work now.

If you have any further queries do let us know. Have a great day!

I suspect this is more than an isolated issue. I had the same problem this morning with my portable home AND 500 smart speakers. No other devices were affected, only Bose. Both were corrected by uninstalling from the Alexa and Bose apps and then doing a factory reset.

I’ve had occasional similar issues with other devices and am now questioning the wisdom of too many smart home products.
