Hello........
Earlier today, I was performing an outdoor gig that involved my S1 Pro (on floor/tilt back mode) sitting in direct sunlight and the air temperature was pretty hot (by UK standards).
The front grille was quite hot, although I was perfectly able to place my hand there without any great discomfort.
My question is, could the direct sunlight and the ensuing heat cause any damage to the speaker.
Thank You..............Brian
So, no advice here, I might as well go and ask the cat !!
Hello onemanband,
I don't own an S1 Pro, so I can't specifically answer about its heat tolerance. I do have other Bose equipment, and have read several posts here on the forum about heat, especially involving direct sunlight occasionally causing problems. Providing a canopy or some sort of shade definitely helps.
Heat is a big enemy in sound systems, and electronics in general. (Look at the high-velocity fans in large high-wattage power amps!) While it may not cause an immediate problem, I would expect any electronic device would have a shorter life span if constantly subjected to extreme heat.
My personal rule of thumb is: If it's too hot for me to work hard, it's probably too hot for my equipment!
Does that help?
Thank you!
Fortunately we do not get extremes of high temperatures very often here in the UK. so this issue is not a regular one, just something I thought I should maybe be aware of.
50% of the (outdoors) time, I am probably playing within "normal" temperature parameters and not always in direct sunlight.
I do have two S1's, so maybe I should alternate between them to "spread the load" so to speak?
As I said in the OP, this was just a something that I thought needed to be checked out to be sure. The S1 Pro is a fantastic unit; (I get many complimentary comments on the sound), and I would hate to compromise it's longevity.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to advise.
Cheers.........Brian.
