I'm going to be DJing a friend's indoor wedding and 150 guests are expected. I have a Bose S1 Pro and have thought about getting a second IF two will be loud enough for the event. My understanding though is that a single S1 Pro is only adequate for about 50 people. Would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations.
Hello twotonetimmy,
First of all -- I am not a DJ.
It all depends on the type of music and how loud you plan to play it, but most on this forum would probably not try it, even with two S1 Pro's. If by ""DJing", you mean moderately loud dance music, you might satisfy those directly in front of the speakers. You won't have the booming bass most are expecting at an event like this, unless you supplant the sound with some subs. If you are just supplying background music, you can probably get by with two, but getting everyone's attention for announcements or speeches might be a challenge, especially if alcohol and a loud party mood abound.
Having been to a lot of weddings where the DJ is unbearably loud, though -- this might be a good thing! The S1 Pro is a fantastic small system, but it has its limitations.
DJ's, please weigh in!
Does that help?
Have you thought about adding a Sub 1 to the S1? A Sub 1 or 2 can be used with one or two S1 Pros and should handle that size of a crowd.
I’m a dj.
I have 2 s1pros and love them. I use them for ceremonies cocktail hours, small events. But in my opinion, 2 would not be recommended for a wedding reception for 150 people. I’ve never tried the new sub with an S1pro.
an L1 model 2 or the new pro 32 is what I’d recommend for a wedding reception.
