Bose S1 Pro

Hi Gang

Just thought I’d post details about the gig I did today using my newly purchased S1.

When the gig was booked they specified they only wanted gentle easy listening in the background and they only expected around 40 people, so off I set with both my Compacts and the newly purchased S1.

I knew it was a church hall so I went prepared because these places tend to vary in size.

I got to the venue and with only 40 expected I decided not to set up on the stage and went in close and set up near the group of tables, I put the S1 on a stand and went for the most basic set up with just my acoustic and vocals and my backing tracks, I was purely on battery power.

About ten minutes to showtime the organisers started putting extra tables out and a message was circulating that more had decided to come!

Limited time meant I had to go on with what I had, one tiny S1 looking totally inadequate perched on a stand while around 50 bodies piled in and filled the room with chat.

With the S1 at around the 3 o’clock position I started to play and had started to talk myself into swapping over to a Compact in my break but halfway through the first track the organiser asked me to turn down!

I started to relax and from the way people were leaning into each other to chat I knew I was loud enough to be heard.

As the party got into full swing I found myself cranking up (nowhere near full) and off I went with some good old Rock and Roll and with assorted people bopping and singing along I relaxed knowing my little S1 was rising to the challenge and filling the hall with sound.

As the afternoon drew to a close I went in to my usual encore and got the crowd on their feet for Sweet Caroline so there I was pumping a classic Neil Diamond song through a tiny S1 and being joined by 50 shouting very noisy people, and the S1 still had some in reserve!

So much for an easy listening gig!

As I was packing up I was asked several times about the S1, the organiser couldn’t believe that such a tiny unit could produce such a wall of sound and I have to admit that neither did I.

Of course I am aware the natural hall acoustics would have helped bounce the sound around but it’s still quite amazing that one tiny S1 could produce enough crystal clear sound to fill a church hall.

And the best bit is there was still 70% battery power left at shut down!

Well impressed. Well done Bose, another fabulous product.

Geoff

Thanks for the report, @Geoff

Had a gig today in an outdoor pavilion -- about 50-60 people.

Played background music using Bose Connect through my 2 S1s.  Then played 2 guitars and two vocals using a Behringer 1002b to my AER Tommy Emmanuel as center with the 2 S1s on the left and right of us -- AER at 1/3 power and S1s halfway and filled the place with beautiful sound.

Ran the S1s for 4 hours on battery and I'll bet I've got at least 1/2 of the batteries left.  I'll check tomorrow...

Gotta love it.

Very cool! Thanks for filling us in.

Hey Joe!

You can indeed use the S1 Pro as a secondary speaker - the line output on your amp can be connected to one of the inputs on the S1 using a 1/4" cable.

Hi Mariusic00!

Thank for joining us on the Bose forum.

I am unfamiliar with this Sennheiser wireless mic set, but a quick look through their instruction guide suggests this may be something to do with the audio output level set on the receiver.

Can you confirm whether the Sennheiser receiver is detecting a signal from the wireless mic?

Does the S1 Pro produce sound if you connect a different audio source?
