Bose T4S and Pioneer XDJ-RX2 DJ mixer Connection Question

Folks, need help. upgraded from using laptop to an actual dj mixer

What is the best connection from my Pioneer XDJ-RX2 DJ Mixer using the 2 XLRs out L and R to T4S? Shall I use (2) XLR/xlr cable connect it to channel 1 and 2? or use (2) XLR to 1/4 trs and connect them to channel 5/6? And what is the recommended  settings on the t4s if selecting either option? btw, I am using (2) L1 model 2 with B2 sub.  Thanks

Hi fjcruiser,

Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Thanks for the excellent question.

Main Channels 1, 2, 3, 4

If you connect the Pioneer XDJ-RX2 DJ Mixer to channels 1 and 2 (or 3 and 4) you can use:

  • The Master Volume control
  • The Pan/Aux to direct the signals to left and right outputs
  • The trim controls to optimize the signal output from the mixer to match the inputs of the T4S
  • The channel volume controls
  • Presets (e.g., DJ / High Volume Music)
  • zEQ  (tone controls)
  • ParaEQ  (parametric EQ)
  • Reverb
  • Aux Outputs
  • XLR to XLR cables OR XLR to 1/4" (6.3mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve jack cables

Aux Inputs 5, 6

If you connect the Pioneer XDJ-RX2 DJ Mixer to the Aux inputs (channels 5 and 6) you can use:

  • The Master Volume control
  • The Pan/Aux to direct the signals to left and right outputs
  • XLR to 1/4" (6.3mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve jack cables

Choose the channels that best suit your needs.

Summary

  • if you need signal processing use T4S channels 1, 2, 3, 4
  • if you will do all the signal processing and manage the volume on the mixer, you can use T4S channels 5 and 6.

Does that help?

Yes, it does help. Option 1 (connecting to Ch 1 - 4) seems I can have more option on T4S but does that mean the T4S settings supersedes the mixer processing? - I wonder what other Bose community do with this scenario.( I am not a DJ pro, just hobbyist so please bear with me with my questions)

I'm not sure if I would say the T4S settings supercede the mixer settings, but they will affect the outcome.

Since you've asked what others do, I'll move your question to the DJ forum where others can participate.

Hi fjcruiser,

It looks like your Pioneer XDJ-RX2 DJ Mixer has some EQ (Hi MID LOW)

You may not need to double-up and run the output of the mixer through the channels 1, 2, 3, or 4.

The best way to know which way works best for you is to try it both ways.

The big experiment is to connect the mixer to two of the 1, 2, 3, or 4. Then try the ToneMatch Presets for DJ (e.g., DJ / High Volume Music).  Give it a listen. What do you prefer?

Are you running anything else through your ToneMatch mixer?

ST

No, nothing else running thru T4S. maybe wired mic occasionally.

That's great, there's no competition for the full-function inputs on channels 1, 2, 3, 4.

In your shoes, I'd connect the Pioneer XDJ-RX2 DJ Mixer to inputs 3 and 4 and experiment with the ToneMatch Presets. I'd leave channels 1 and 2 open for microphones. The T4S has some terrific features for getting optimal sound from vocal microphones.

Thanks for the info. One last thing, if I use a xlr to 1/4 TRS cable. does it matter if the TRS is mono jack or balanced? is balanced TRS better?

An XLR to 1/4" (6.3mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve cable will give you a balanced connection (if it is wired correctly). Yes, a balanced connection is best for your application.

Thanks for all the great info!
