Cinemate 130/Apple TV 4 issue

Hello. I have a Cinemate 130 with attached SoundTouch adapter that has worked ok so far - the last update that was pushed to the SoundTouch has made things less stable but I digress. I recently received an Apple TV 4. I currently have an Apple TV 3 attached to the 130 and it works fine. When I connected the Apple TV 4 to the 130 (in the Game port - the same port the Apple TV 3 was connected to) the Bose system would show the Apple (Game) feed for about 3 seconds then would switch back to cable/sat. Every time you push the menu button on the Bose (or Apple) remote the Bose system would attempt to switch back to Game only to redirect back to Cab/Sat again. When I plugged the Apple TV 4 into another TV it displayed without any problems. My software for the CInemate 130 is update to date, so I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem and what fix/work around is there?

George,
Thanks for the reply. I have followed the steps you have laid out above and it worked the first time the system was restarted but did not work on following attempts to use the ATV4. Currently I have our cable box in cab/sat, the ATV4 in BD/DVD, xbox one in Game. I performed the full system restart and found success on the initial system start up, but when we went to use the ATV4 last night we had the same switching issue as described above. I then took our Apple TV 3 from our other tv, plugged it into the same HDMI cable as the ATV4 had been using (BD/DVD) and had no problems with the input switching back to Cab/Sat.

Hi Stock8,
We haven’t seen any specific incompatibility issues with the Apple TV 4 so far. Let’s see if we can help you narrow down the problem. To do this we will need to try a few tests with your system:

  1. Connect the Apple TV to a different HDMI input besides “Game” (Aux, CBLSAT, BD Player) to see if the same symptoms show up. (This may mean switching it with another component temporarily)
  2. Perform a full reset to the Cinemate 130 by unplugging the power to all components for a full minute.
  3. Test whether the system is switching back to the last-used source or whether it always jumps to CBLSAT regardless of where it starts.(E.g. start from BD or AUX and try to switch to the Apple TV on game)

Let us know what you find.

Hi Stock8,

Can you let us know what results you found on tests 1 & 3 from our last post? Did the ATV4 have the same issue connected to a different HDMI port on the system? Did the switch happen to CBLSAT regardless of the previous source?

Also, try removing the HDMI connection temporarily from CBLSAT. Does the system still switch there even with nothing connected?
Please let us know what you find when you try these steps so that we can continue troubleshooting.
Thank you.

George - I finally had to contact the 800 number for support. I did try moving the HDMI’s around and it did not make any difference which HDMI port the ATV4 was plugged into, it still bounced back and forth with CBL/SAT. Cust Support had me adjust the CEC settings and now it is working fine.

I am having the same exact issue and it is quite frustrating. I powered the system down and then started up and it worked (connected to AppleTV 4) once and then when I switched to cable and tried to come back it did the same thing where it would come on for 2-3 seconds and then disappear. Any other suggestions on what to do?

Steve321,

Stock8's original issue appears to have been resolved by adjusting the HDMI CEC settings on the Cinemate system.
To turn HDMI CEC on or off, follow these steps:

  1. On the remote control, press the System button
  2. Press the down arrow to navigate to "3 HDMI-CEC"
  3. Press the left or right arrow to adjust HDMI CEC setting:
    • DEFAULT ON: Enables CEC
    • ALTERNATIVE ON: Prevents unintended source switching and may fix CEC inconsistencies
    • OFF: Disables CEC

  4. Press EXIT to exit the menu

Try the "Off" setting first. If that works well you can also experiment with the "Alternative On" setting to see if things remain solved.
(Note that disabling this may remove the remote control link between your system, the TV and other components which accept commands via HDMI CEC. Any audio return from your TV via HDMI ARC will also be interrupted with CEC turned off.)
Thank you.
