Comments about the L1® System
Everything has been great. No more complaints about not being able to hear themselves in the mix of the monitor. No crowded stages. No bulky speakers, blocking the view of the Band members.

The Players
John: Guitar and vocals.
Billy: Drums and vocals.
Patrick: Bass and vocals.

I used the Band Post Builder and a few things are missing.

Three piece classic rock/blues and country band. Playing Bar & Grills that tend to get on the rowdy side, with 100 give or take. Three vocal mics and Alesis Sample Pad w/bass drum trigger into the T1, into the L1. Guitar player, plays through a Fender Champ. Bass guitar through Carvin MB12. We keep both are amps beside the Bose L1. We have been using the L1 since July of 2012. It has been a great experience and so far standing the test of time.

I was interested in your set up and how you approach using the L1 as a trio. I am a singer/lead guitarist and was wondering how each of you prefer to use the L1- do you mic everything, just some things etc.

I am very new to this and could use a few tips. I like what I heard on your FB page. You guys sound and play great. That made me really start to believe maybe this unit will actually work with the music I play after all. I’m not sure, because the Hendrix type of stuff make be too loud a style of music, but who knows- maybe I can pull it off. I don’t ant to hurt ears- but I do need it to be loud and aggressive enough.

It took me awhile, but I ordered the L1 Mod 2 with a B2 bass module 2 days ago to get me started. I’ll be using a Mackie mixer with it for now because I ran out of $$ fast buying this thing. I’ll get the T1 later maybe.

I have always loved the power trio format- I play Hendrix, Trower, Cream, Sabbath, Blues, classic rock, originals and will be forming a band soon. I’m not sure if this Mod 2 will have the power I need, but from watching a lot of posted Youtube vids, I think I can keep the fire going with the volume it seems to have.

Any guidance on how you all like to mic things, etc that could help a newbie would be greatly appreciated. It will be here in 4 days and I feel excited about it.

Thank you,
Bo_Z

Hey, sorry for not replying sooner. Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, so far so good. I believe, in all the videos you see, the guitar player is only playing through a Fender Champ. On some occasions, he uses a Peavey Delta. I play through a Carvin MB12 with an extra cab. The only thing running through the Bose is our three vocal mics and kick drum, which is a kick drum trigger.
We play small to medium venues and have had no problems filling them with sound. We have a bigger venue that we will be playing soon, that may prove to be challenging, but will see.

Oh, I also wanted to point out, you have the B2, which supposedly will provide even more sound reinforcement than what we are capable of with two B1’s. I believe you will be using a mixer with many more channels, giving you the option to try and mic more instruments if you need to. I personally have not tried it, but don’t think it should be a problem. By now you most likely have put your system to use. Would love to hear how it went for you.

Thanks for getting back to me. The bass player left right after I bought this L1 M2/B2 sub and I haven’t gotten to try it out live yet.

So the guitar and bass just match your stage levels to the drummer and then let the PL1 do the rest from what I see. Are your amps tilted upward (mostly the guitar amp) so it’s not beaming into the audience up front?

I know they suggest turning the amps to the side/offstage so as not to interfere with the L1’s sound wave/spread, but it sounds like it works for your band to just play with a normal set up.

Thanks for the info. I can’t wait to get out there to test things out for myself and experiment. I may even rent a hall just to jam test this thing if I have to- to get started.

I haven’t gotten to test it live yet because the bass player left the band. I plan on trying to limit the mixer to 5 channels for now- 2 vocals, direct bass, mic’ed amp and mic’ed kick drum.

I may just rent a hall if I have to and invite some musicians I know to have a jam session to help me test it out. It kills me to have it and can’t use it yet, but hey, stuff happens. Onward we go.

Thanks for your reply.

I hate setting up lights out front on a pole. You get use to the “clean” look using the Bose.

Yeah, everyone is always like, “where is your gear”? This particular venue that is pictured has some basic lights that are mounted up and in front of the stage. When I do use lights it is minimal. I have the mount for the tower, which I know is not recommended, but no troubles so far. I mount two lightweight led off of it. I set up John the main vocalist and furthest away from the tower with a wireless mic, so not even many cables laying across the stage.
