Hey MatrixBG,

Thank you for taking the time to post and welcome to the Bose Community. Is your question to the Community asking which system to recommend between the Companion 20 and SoundTouch 10?

How are you looking to use the speaker, and do you currently own any Bose systems? I'd love to advise where I can on the options.

The ST 10 is best for music and network connection. The ST10 has pretty good fidelity.

The Companion 20 is best for connecting to a computer. Mine sits on each side of my iMac. As such the Companion 20 has a better sound stage and stereo separation.

You can use both the Companion 20 and ST 10 to amplify your mobile music player.

Hello,

I really don't know what happened but I've wrote my question and save...and still did't output it here...strange...here we go again...

I have 2 Bose SoundTouch 10's and one Bose Companion 20 for may Mac. Everything works fine as it should. But the sound on Companion is far more superior then on the ST10...Can someone recomend me a Bose Smart Speaker that has the same sound signature of Companion 20 with the small footprint??

Thank in advance.

Greetings from Berlin.

Definitely the Home 300. I believe it has BlueTooth and 3.5 mm input.

I tought about it too, but is it the same sound signatur as companion's?

As far as I know, ST10 and Home Speaker 300 don't share the same app....you have to have 2 separate apps in order to control it?

That is correct. Blue Tooth and Airplay are good work arounds.

The Companion 20 has no operating system and does one thing very well...PC/Mac multimedia speakers.

I have both the ST10 and the Home 300. I think the latter sounds better. A little richer. The speaker has a more modern chassis as is does the app it uses.

I own all the speakers that are being discussed. The only connected speaker that reaches the sound quality of the Companion 20, in my opinion, is the SoundTouch 20. The downside is that there is not as good separation on the SoundTouch 20. The upside is that the SoundTouch 20 can play lower frequencies right down to the 28 hertz. My Companion 20 only goes down to 35 hertz. Other than that the sound signatures are about the same. The HomeSpeaker 300 does not come close. The HS 300 sounds more like a Bose Revolve or Revolve Plus. Not even the HomeSpeaker 500 sounds as good as the SoundTouch 20. Unfortunately, though, the SoundTouch 20 does not have smart features. By the way, the SoundTouch 20 also sounds better than two paired ST 10’s.

So, what is my recommendation?  Buy a Bose SoundTouch Link Adapter to power the Companion 20 speakers. This will give you the same wifi connectivity as the actual SoundTouch speakers have. You could also get ahold Apple Airport Express to feed the Companions. This will give them AirPlay 2 capability for you have Apple devices.

As you can tell, I am a big fan of the Companion 20. I own, use and enjoy many Bose Home theatre systems, SoundBars, Bluetooth speakers, wifi speakers and headphones. The Companion 20 are my favorite for listenning in to stereo music. Yes, I miss some of that sub bass below 50 hertz, but everything else about the sound signature more than makes up for it.

Hope this helps!!

good feedback on the speakers. I agree, the Companion 20 speakers sound great and give very good sound separation. That is why I use them with my iMac. The Companion 20 is a top notch multimedia desktop speaker set. I tried many, quite a few years ago now and remain happy with my choice.

Indeed stereo separation is not as good with the single network speakers. I definitely agree on your sound output comments. The Smart Home 500 doesn’t come close to the ST30.  Hopefully Bose will release a Home 700, with a bigger foot print to step up the sound in the network single speaker category.

Thanks for reply, that is exactly what I needed to hear. 😊

The only downside of ST20 is the footprint. It is not suitable for small kithen or bathroom, but meybe I'll give it a try...

I had toughts on Companion 20 SoundTouch Link but then I have to have more sockets and everything should be always on vs SoundTouch series's standby mode.
