Composite Acoustics Legacy Presets

Hi All,

I’m loving my Bose L1 MII with Tone Match! I just bought at Composite Acoustics Legacy with the Fishman Prefix-T pick up system in it. I’m really pleased to find there are Composite Acoustics Presets available, 2 of which are for the Legacy specifically.

Which to use?
Legacy Saddle Only - Legacy, 50/50 pickup blend
Legacy Saddle/Mic - Legacy, pickup only

Does anyone know what the differences are on these presets? Are there recommended settings on the Fishman for each of these?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi KingBiscuit,

I can only advise you to try them out with different guitar settings and let your ears be the judge. There’s nothing more subjective than personal preference/taste as far as sound goes.

If you have a half was decent digital recorder you can record your trials/tests acoustically (as in microphone not per cable out of the T1) and listen to them afterwards and decide what sounds best to your ears. You would need to document your recordings so that you know what you did at the time e.g. by saying :

Legacy Saddle Only - Legacy, 50/50 pickup blend, guitar settings blah blah. I’m sure you understand what I mean.

Never be afraid to try things out. We all started out with absolutely no idea of what we’re doing and have learned through experience or asking questions (as in your present case). You basically can’t ruin your equipment. Don’t be afraid to try stuff out. If it sounds good, then it most probably is.

Does that help?

Tony

Hi Tony,

That helps a bit. I try different things all the time but I’m hoping to get an insight on how they went about setting up the preset which will give me a place to start with my settings.

I’ve also posted this same question to the Composite Acoustics support e-mail but have not yet heard back from them.

Thanks for your input,

Dan

Hi KingBiscuit

To the best of my knowledge all presets have been made by ear. Listening to the instrument and adjusting eq to make the sound from the L1 the same or very similar to the unamplified acoustic sound. The actual process utilized two graphic equilizers in series giving the operator 30dB of boost or cut, as needed, over approximately 30 bands of frequencies. The results were captured digitally and included in the T1 software.

The guitar maker was most likely present during the process and approved the end result.

The actual eq values have never been available for review.

Just as no two guitars are exactly the same, no two players will get exactly the same tone from a particular or similar instrument, so it is unlikely that you will hear exactly what was heard at the time the presets were made. You might not want to hear the natural sound of the instrument, you might like exaggerated bottom or really crisp highs that were never included in the preset.

Taking all the above into consideration the presets are still the best place to start. You can tinker and experiment till you find something pleasing to your ear. Don’t be afraid to play with the zEQ and/or the PARA eq after preset selection.

You don’t have to limit yourself to the presets made for your instrument or pickup, I have found Taylor presets more pleasing to me with some Martin guitars than the Martin presets are.

Have fun finding your sound.

O…
