I’m looking to get the F1 Model 812 and F1 Subwoofer to use with a sound mixer (Peavey PV14).
I wanted to get some insight on how to connect the mixer to the F1 System. The 812 only has 1 XLR input, how would I connect the left and right channels from the mixer?
The subwoofer has 2 inputs that I can use for L and R from the mixer but then how would I connect the L and R to the 812?
If you are connecting the iPad or laptop to the Peavey PV14 you can connect those to channels 1 through 8 panned hard left. Don't use channels 9/10 or 11/12.
You would need to use two channels and pan both left, the other option would be to make up a simple summing lead with a couple of 10k resistors in the mono ¼" plug* at the mixer end. I'm assuming you are thinking of a laptop or iPad/Phone with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output here BTW. I had one made up by Orchid Electronics in the UK, cost less than £10 and he does ship worldwide.
* It's not a good idea to just join the wires up as one side of the headphone amp is then driving the other, sometimes a device will take exception to this behaviour and spit it's dummy. The 10k resistors protect the amp. You could make a summing lead to join the two outputs of the PV mixer to the speaker but XLR connecters and balanced lines will more than double the cost of making it.
If yes... do your recommend TRS version of the cable and what should I be setting the switches to? Mic or line?
Thanks!
There is nothing to be gained by running two cables from the mixer to the F1 Model 812 however, if you want to do it, use Tip-Ring-Sleeve to XLR cables.
Set the Input 1 Signal Input to LINE
Set the volume controls so you see solid green on the LEDs. It's okay if you see flickers of red (up to one second). If you see red for longer than a second, turn down the volume.
