Connecting 2 S1 Pros with 2 BOSS VE-8

Hello again!

I have a show coming up with my Brother and we are looking to order another S1 Pro due to the size of the venue. We both have a BOSS VE-8 and currently only I have the S1 Pro. I just wanted to know if we can hook everything up this way:

BOSS VE-8 goes into input 1 of the first S1 Pro with a 1/4" cable.

BOSS VE-8 Goes into input 1 of the second S1 Pro with a 1/4" cable.

Input 2 of the first S1 Pro goes into the output of the second S1 Pro with a 1/4" cable.

Will this set up work? This way we can both use out BOSS VE-8 to control our vocals and guitars and we can both be playing through both S1 Pros.

We are trying to avoid getting a mixer.

Thank you!

Does this info on this link help?

I think the best would be to connect the first 2 Boss VE-8 to input 1 and 2 of the first S1 as you state, but then use the line out from the first S1 to the second S1 using a 1/4” TRS cable. In essence, the second S1 is a slave to the first S1.

Then follow the advice on the link above to set the controls on the 2 S1s. What you want to do is to try to consolidate where you do all your eq fiddling on the “master” S1 or VE-8 so you can go to just one place to control your overall signal. You don’t want to be hopping around to the various points to adjust your sound.

Great question I was wondering if 2 S1 Pros would double the area of amplification? How large is the venue you and your brother will be performing.

I was considering down-sizing my PA system.

Thanks

Hi John D.

Did you get things sorted out? See Troubles Connecting Boss VE-8 to S1 Pro

If so, then CityFolk's suggestion should work well.

Hi, Storm.

That's a great question.

It depends on where position the S1 Pro systems and how the audience is set up in relation to them.

Here are a few things to consider.

  • Two identical loudspeakers placed side-by-side playing the same content are not much louder than one. You can expect up to 3 dB more sound pressure level. You will hear a difference, but not much.
  • Using two loudspeakers is beneficial when you separate them, so you have two sound fields.
    • Example:
If one S1 Pro system can cover an attentive audience of 25-50 people, two S1 Pro systems can cover two attentive audiences of 25-50.
If the two theoretical audiences are side-by-side in front and to the sides of you, this works well.
    • This is why most small PA systems use two loudspeakers, one on each side of the stage.
  • Using two S1 Pro systems won't make the sound much louder, but if you position them appropriately, you can reach a wider audience.

Thanks. That's helpful.

Thank you for all your help and insight! The venue is a noisy restaurant that can hold about 100 people. One S1 pro has great power to it but maybe not enough to cut through all the background noise so we are hoping 2 of them will help with this.

Thanks!

Hi John D.

You'll want to put the S1 Pro systems on speaker stands at or slightly above ear level of the audience.

What is the shape of the room?

  • Square or rectangular
  • If rectangular,
    • does the stage face the short wall (farther away) or
    • does the stage the long wall (closer)

ST

Hard to say, we have not played at this place yet and there is no stage. We will be in a corner but it is more of a rectangular shape overall. We were planning on using stands as well to help the sound reach the back.

Really appreciate all the advice!

You can buy a powered speaker and use the 1/4 trs out of the S1 pro into it for more volume. Basically using the S1 pro as a mixer. That gives you greater flexibility; unless you are going all battery, then another S1 pro using it the same way as a powered speaker will work.
