Distortion with KMS 105 and L1

I’m suddenly getting distortion using a KMS 105 with my L1 PA via an Alesis 16-channel mixer…I sing rather loudly, so it sounds like I’m just overdriving the mic/speaker.
Does anyone have any ideas for a solution?
Thanks.

Hi Kenny,

How does the KMS 105 sound if you plug it directly into the L1® Power Stand. We’re just trying to narrow down the source of the problem.

on the Power Stand
Try Channel 1
Turn on Phantom Power
Turn trim to 1/2 way up (that will be a little on the low side but should allow you to get a good strong green light on the input trim light).

Set the Preset to 02 and just for the sake of experimentation - try Preset 12.

How does it sound?

Hi Kenny,

ST’s suggestion, if it cures it, will point the finger at the Alesis.

I had their 16 channel firewire mixer for a year or so, nice mixer, but it’s gain/trim control was touchy.
I had an EV-RE20 that would distort on that mixer, the gain had to be past 3 o’clock to give me enough volume,
and that led to the distortion problem.
I cured it by selling the RE20.

The problem was in the mixer settings…My Alesis MultiMix 12 USB 12-Channel Mixer has four small black knobs at the top near the inputs, in addition to the regular faders. I assume these knobs are pre-amps for the XLR inputs.
At any rate, my knob had gotten turned up very high, thus the overdriven/distorted sound. When I turned it back down, no more distortion.
Thank you for your replies Smile
