F1 subs and tops - Connecting 2 pairs (4 speakers) per side

I am having problems with sound from the second pair of speakers when trying to link togeter. I want to link a sub and top to another sub and top, giving me 4 speakers per side. I am using top quality XLR cables but there is limited sound coming from the second pair of speakers, especially the base unit??

This is my configuration but what am I missing or doing correctly.

XLR from Mixer to the Input on the Sub..

Output to top input..

Top output to sub input..

Sub output to top input.

Hello motionblu,

Try this:

  1. Connect XLR from the mixer to F1 Subwoofer # 1's Input 1.  Set F1 Subwoofer # 1's Line Output EQ to "THRU".
  2. Connect XLR from the F1 Subwoofer # 1's Line Output 1 to the F1 Subwoofer # 2's Input 1.  Set F1 Subwoofer  #2's Line Output EQ to "THRU".
  3. Connect XLR from the F1 Subwoofer # 2's Line Output 1 to the F1 812 #2's Input 1.  Set F1 812 #2's EQ to "WITH SUB".
  4. Connect XLR from F1 812 #2's Line Output to the F1 812 # 1's Input 1.  Set F1 812 #1's EQ to "WITH SUB".

You will likely need to adjust the volume on the first F1 812, after adjusting the second F1 812, since the signal coming from the second F1 812's Line Output is affected by its volume control.

The F1 812's Line Output jack is POST volume control, whereas the F1 Subwoofer's Line Output jack is PRE-volume control (i.e., always the full signal sent from the mixer).  Going from Sub to Top to Sub to Top puts a volume control (in the first top) before the second set, whereas going from Sub to Sub to Top to Top sends full signal to the first three, and only the last top will need adjustment.

Does that help?

Also....

It was suggested that you don't have the 812s side by side.  If one is on the built in stand (the plastic frame between sub and 812), then have your OTHER 812 on a traditional speaker pole or something.  One has to be higher than the other, otherwise you get comb filtering issues.

I hope this helps.  🙂
