Feedback Using L1, Series II as FOH system

I purchased two sets of L1, Series II towers with b-2 bass units to use as FOH “main” speakers with my 11-piece Motown band (7 vocal mics, 18 total channels) and my 7-piece Country band (5 vocal mics, 16 total channels.) Both bands often play in larger rooms to 200 people. I run the Bose speaker systems through a QSC TouchMix 16. Both bands use in-ear-monitor systems. I purchased the Bose speaker systems to use as “mains” because of their clarity and portability, not for the ability to use them as both mains and monitors. However, even using IEM’s I seem to always get an unacceptable amount of feedback. As soon as my sound man finds and reduces the frequencies feeding back using the “main” EQ, other feedback pops up. If my sound man had hair, it would all be pulled out. Is there any cure for this or should I give up on using the L1’s for FOH and go to a different FOH speaker system?

Hi Randysolo,

Thank you for joining the Forum.

Sorry that you’re having trouble using your L1® systems for FOH.

Can you post pictures or videos of your bands in action. I’d like to understand how you have things set up physically.

Thanks

edit: Apologies for posting here. I didn’t notice that this post was in Ask Bose for Help.

Here is a diagram of our normal stage set-up. We place the L1 towers and B2 bass bins in front of the band on the floor on both sides, as one would place traditional bass bins and main speakers on stands.

Here is the link to a video of one of my bands.

Note that the sax and the trombone now use wireless systems. The congas are played on an electronic touch pad. The drummer also sings. We now use In-Ear Monitors.

Hello Randysolo,

I’m sorry to hear of the issue you are receiving. Looking at your PDF and video, I see no obvious signs of what could be causing this feedback issue. With the speakers setup in this FOH position and with the use of in-ear monitors, our typical feedback causing criteria are eliminated. Certainly we have multiple microphone sources on stage, so feedback culprits could be coming from many sources. Have you ever been able to pinpoint a particular source with being prone to feedback? There are several factors we could examine, such as mic placement, mic’s set to Omni instead of Cardiod pattern, gain staging issues, etc. It may be best, due to the number of performers and potential factors to give us a call at the number below. We can then discuss what you’ve tried already and try and come to a solution.

Thank you,
