Google Assistant and Smart Speaker Firmware Update May 21st, 2019

Dear Community,

We are very excited to share that on Tuesday, May 21st, a Bose Music firmware update will begin rolling out for Bose Smart Speakers and Soundbars making the Google Assistant available in U.S./English.

With this release, the Google Assistant is integrated with the Bose family of smart products and supports the majority of Google Assistant functionality, including music playback, control of smart home devices, setting timers and alarms, and general information requests. Google Assistant availability in additional regions will be announced soon!

To receive the updated firmware, please leave your smart speaker connected to the Internet. The speaker will download the firmware in the background and install it when it’s idle sometime during the next 2:00AM-5:00AM local time window.

Please use the Bose Music App to setup the Google Assistant. On the speaker, go to Settings > Voice Assistant and select the Google Assistant and follow the app instructions to link your Google account.

In addition to the Google Assistant, these features and enhancements are also available in this update:

  • Gaana music service is now available via Amazon Alexa in India.
  • Speaker Grouping and control is now available via Amazon Alexa. Create a speaker group in the Amazon Alexa App and initiate playback and control of that group via Amazon Alexa voice command.
