Happy Birthday L1® (October 15th 2003)

To Everyone at Bose

Twelve years today - at 3:17 pm EST it will have been twelve years since the original L1® (Personalized Amplification System) was announce.

I wrote this three years ago, and I could have written it today.

Thank you for the L1® and for NINE years!

I didn’t get to see the Bose Personalized Amplification System until June 2004, but when I did, it changed everything. Back then I was sure that performing live was on its way out - at least for me. It was just too much work, with too many obstacles (it’s too loud, can’t hear myself, can’t hear others, have to manage all the gear, have to run the sound for the whole band from the stage while performing). All of that had just sucked the joy out of performing.

When I saw the LineMen (Bose band that included Cliff-at-Bose on keyboards), I knew that this was something completely different. I didn’t understand until later, that I had seen the future: My future performing live at least a couple of times a week, eight years later.

Here’s a note from Steve-at-Bose on the first anniversary of the announcement of what we now know as the Bose L1®.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Yes, today (3:17PM to be exact) marks the first, that’s right just the first, anniversary of our announcement of the Personalized Amplification System™ family of products. So from me to you, happy anniversary to all of us in the family of owners. We’ve cast aside the artistically corrupt notion that musicians should not hear the same mix as their audience. We’ve taken chances, we’ve learned new things and we’ve begun a great new journey that for most is less than 12 months old. Remarkable to me.

So thank you to the original product team, eternally!

And thank you to the L1® team today that continue to support my investments in the L1® and for having my back every time I go out to play. I’m amazed that nine years after the original product launch you brought out two new products that remain true to the original vision and while acknowledging the needs of your current user community. The Model 1S addressed the needs of those who wanted something between the Compact and the Model II. The B2 bass module, well there’s the answer for the people who just wanted more bass.

Over the years you have brought out new products within the L1® family without significantly diminishing the perceived value of products in the field. The new products gave us more, without making the existing products seem less. There will continue to be those who feel that the Classic is THE L1® to own. Others will hang on to their Model I units. The Model 1S confirms that Model II as the top of the line. All of that supports all of my investments in this equipment.

I like the new products. I think that they offer significant and tangible value to performers. That’s important to me even though I may not be running out to buy more gear right now. It means that whenever someone asks me, “Why Bose?” I can tell them, and it makes as much sense today as it did when I made the decision to buy in.

But more important than all of that, I get to go out and stand in front of my L1®s several times a week enjoying it more than I ever have. And at the rate I’m going, I can do that with anticipation of years more ahead.

Thank you!

So here we are three years later, and I’m still using my L1®s, and the Compact, and now I’ve added a couple of F1s. I’ve got all the bases covered. It’s great to have choices, but best of all it’s great to be making music.

Thank you to all the people at Bose that had a vision and made it reality, again and again.

A couple of years ago we had a 10 year celebration.

We don’t have prizes this year, but you might enjoy the stroll down memory lane.

10 year of Bose L1

Enjoy!

Seems like a million years ago already. What a ride.

I am a relative new user. I’ve had a Compact for about 6 years and a M2 for about 4 or 5 I guess. I played as a solo, and now as a duo with the Bose units. I also play in a 6-piece Blues band which uses a conventional PA. There is NO comparison. The balance of sound is barely tolerable at best with the conventional PA. Can’t hear the other guitarist, or sometimes the keys. I hear my guitar too loudly as well as the lead singer. Absolutely no balance of sound heard by the band, and we have no clue what the audience is hearing most times.

The Bose units? As long as I don’t mess something up, the sound is pristine and balanced. I can hear everything, can tweak on the fly to make it better, and never have to guess what the audience is hearing. The best part is I PLAY BETTER when I can jear myself like that. I get into the music and a groove better, which translates into a better show. Win-Win.

I know I’m preaching to the quoir, but I love this system. I’ve read on other forums that some people hate Bose, and the Bose prices. Some claim it is a gimmic. But you can’t expect a Ferrari to cost the same as a Focus, and the sound I hear is no gimmic IMO. Plus, the compliments from the audience, and their amazement at the Bose? That never gets old.

Sorry for the rant. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOSE

Dave

Wow, I guess this means that some of my gear is 11 years old, and still sounding great!

Time flies when you’re having fun Wink

Our Guitar player, Jim, was a visionary! He turned us on to the concept of what was then called “PAS”…and we all agreed that if it did what they claimed…it would solve all our problems (“volume wars”, inability to monitor ourselves, lack of reliable, consistent sound). We all agreed we needed to see and hear this unique Sound System…so…ROAD TRIP!

Along with our Bass Player, Todd…we drove about 100 miles to Medford, Oregon…where they had two Systems set up in a Guitar Center Store. We each took turns playing, singing, and walking around the room…THE SOUND DID NOT CHANGE! It was well mixed, whether behind displays, off to the side, or all the way back in the large room. We walked out of that store with 3 complete Systems, and we’ve never looked back.

I am very fortunate to have met many of the folks that brought this amazing tool to the World of Live Music…and some amazing Musicians through association (that includes many of you guys). My performances have become so much less robotic…ringing out with those “nuances” that can only be produced through the human soul. And the best part is…everyone hears them!

Happy Birthday, Bose L1…and many more!

Best Wishes,
Jeff

Game changer from day one. I was searching for the best audience pleasing system for my first 24 years in my profession. Thanks to Cliff H with Bose, the search ended with the PAS release.

Thank you to Steve S, Chuck W, Bill H, Ken J, Morten A, Kyle S, Chris L, Tom B, and Linda M how continue to make this journey a life changer as well.

Happy Birthday to us all.

Happy Anniversary Bose L1, so happy to have been a part of the story.
