Hello Tel Ten,
To connect your TV's optical audio out to your Pro 16, you'll have to obtain three (and possibly four) items:
- An optical digital audio converter (DAC) similar to this device. There are many listed on Amazon as well, just search for "digital audio converter."
- A "Toslink" cable (i.e., fiberoptic optical digital audio cable) to connect your TV to the converter. Different lengths are available, so you can easily reach your Pro 16.
- A 3.5mm male TRS to 3.5mm male TRS cable to connect the headphone jack of the converter to the 3.5mm "Aux" jack on channel 3 of the Pro 16. (I would use a short a cable as necessary, as it's much more prone to interference.)
- A power supply for the DAC. Almost all are powered via a USB cable; some include the USB power supply, some don't, but any standard USB power source should work
Most, if not all, of the DACs require your TV to be set for "PCM" rather than "Dolby Digital" or other protocol (depends on the TV.)
Be aware, if you have your Pro 16 on and volume up when you power the TV on or off, you may get a big "thump" that can be annoying at best or damaging at worst!
Does that help?
