L1 Compact, Loud buzzing noise when you turn it on

Hi, I own a L1 Compact system since January 2015 (I live in Venezuela), no problems so far, excellent sound, I only use it at home for recreational purposes, is always plugged thru a surge protector (CE Tech). I forgot to turn it off last Saturday night and today I woke up to a loud buzzing sound. I turn it off and unplugged for a while but now every time I plug it and turn it on the loud buzz starts, please help me understand what the problem could be. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, thank you for your post! Sorry to hear you're having this problem with the L1 Compact. 

Which inputs would you normally use on the L1 (e.g. instruments/audio sources, cables being used)? 

If you turn down the volume on the L1's input channels, does the buzzing go away?

Hi, I regularly use the 1/8" jack to connect an airport extreme to have music available via WiFi, from time to time I connect a wireless device for a microphone in the XLR jack and a cable in the 1/4" jack for a Roland Juno-DS (I think never at the same time this last two). Is there something I need to be aware when connecting devices in the inputs.

 

At the moment the buzz is intermittent sometimes is there and sometimes is not, when is not it sounds for a brief moment when I turn the L1 on (less than a second).

Thank you for these details.

Does the buzzing sound only occur when playing from one of these sources in particular, e.g. only when playing from the AirPort? Or does this happen for all audio sources?

Once you've identified which sources the buzzing is present for, I recommend starting troubleshooting by replacing the relevant cables.

Good morning, when It happened the first time it had only the AirPort cable plugged, but then it continue to happen with out any cables plugged. Thanks.

Hi Gustavo,

It's possible the buzzing is caused by a ground loop, which can occur if too many electronic devices are connected to the same power outlet. 

Does the buzzing noise persist when connecting the system to a different power outlet?

Also, I recommend removing the L1's extensions and connecting the speaker array directly to the power stand. If the buzzing noise disappears after the extensions have been removed, we can determine that these are the cause.
