L1 compact to mixer/powered mixer

   I’m sorry if I duplicated a thread.

   I am new to this and I’ve searched for answers and the closest I’ve gotten was connecting a power mixer to the L1 compact .

  But I was wondering if you can use the L1 compact outlet into my existing powered mixer and then big speakers for large crowds kind of thing.

  I just bought a T8s mixer and do the finances I’ll have to wait until this is paid off then I  am thinking of buying another L1 compact in the future.

 I’ve admired bose systems/speakers in the past and now I finally have one. 

 Like I said.I am new to this and I’m trying to figure things out thanks for your patience.

You should be able to run from the L1 Compact's line out jack to an input your powered mixer.  Ideally, you would use a TRS-TRS balanced cable to make this connection to a mono balanced input on the powered mixer.  However, you didn't specify the make and model of your existing powered mixer, so I can't give any specific cable, connection, and settings recommendations.

 

Are you coming out of the Compact to your larger system because you are using the Compact as your monitor, or are you anticipating the sound from all three (Compact and two conventional speakers) going out to the crowd?  Just wondering.

My power mixer is a Rockville 12 channel

I rather use just my l1 compact but my concerns is that it might not be loud enough. So I'm putting together a back up plan.

Maybe a monitor

Is this your mixer -- Rockville RPM409?

 

You have several options to try.  I would recommend testing any of these out before going to the venue, to see what works best for you.

 

If you want to go from the L1 Compact to the Rockville RPM409:

 

  • You can use a 1/4" TRS-TRS balanced cable to connect from the 1/4" line out on the rear of the L1 Compact to any of the 1/4" "Line" inputs on channels 1-6 of the RPM409.  You will need to  press the channel's "Pad" switch to use the line-level signal.  You would use the channel volume and EQ controls to make any adjustments to the sound.

  • You can use a 1/4" TRS-TRS balanced cable to connect from the 1/4" line out on the rear of the L1 Compact to  1/4" L (Mono) Aux input of the RPM409.  (Using only the L input sends the signal to both the L and R channels.)  It only has a volume control, but does not let you EQ the sound; it just passes the signal directly to the power amps as it came from the L1 Compact.

  • You can use a dual RCA-RCA cable from the RCA jacks on the rear of the L1 Compact, to the RCA CD/Tape In inputs on the RPM409.  The CD Tape/MP3 button above these inputs must be the "CD Tape" (OUT) position.  It is also like the Aux input, so it the same volume control, but does not let you EQ the sound; it just passes the signal directly to the power amps as it came from the L1 Compact.  This is an unbalanced cable, so it should only as long as necessary, and is more susceptible to interference and signal loss.

If you wanted to go the other way, from the Rockville to the L1 Compact.  You'd connect your microphone(s) and/or music sources to the Rockville mixer, then:

 

  • You can use a dual RCA/RCA cable from the RCA "Rec Out" jacks on RPM409 to the RCA jacks on channel 2 of the L1 Compact.  This is an unbalanced cable, so it should only as long as necessary, and is more susceptible to interference and signal loss.

  • You can use either a 1/4" TS-TS or TRS-TRS cable from the front-panel MON jack (NOT the Monitor jack on the rear) to the 1/4" input on channel 2 of the L1 Compact.  (The Rockville's front panel MON jack is unbalanced, so it doesn't matter whether you use a balanced or unbalanced cable.)  You would control the signal going to the Compact via the Rockville's Mon dials for each channel.

Above all, make sure that you never connect any of the Rockville's rear panel "Monitor/Right", "Bridged", or "Main/Left" jacks to the L1 Compact.  Those jacks are only for driving passive speakers.

 

I know that's a lot of information, but those are all safe options.  How will it sound?  Your guess is as good as mine.  I'm betting the vocal throw from the Compact will be great in all directions, but the dispersion and balance will be unpredictable.  Just test and see!
