We recently hired out 4 x L1 Model 2's with B1's for the Nigel Kennedy tour. Apparently he uses them as his stage monitoring. Here's a video a smaller version of his orchestra using 2 x of the L1's.
Regarding the "Apparently he uses them as his stage monitoring,"
He actually appears to be using wedges for his personal monitoring. If you stop the video at 2:14 you get a perfect side view of his pedal board and 2 wedges. To me it seems that the L1's are for the complete band monitoring/sound and the wedges for his own personal monitors which he may well need to have a bit louder for intonation reasons (and here wedges are probably more direct and less likely to disturb the main sound for the other musicians due to their more direct and limited sound dispersion patterns).
These are just my thoughts on the subject which don't in any way detract from the use of the L1's for such a performance. The musicians will have been "bathing" in their own music I would think.
