The bass module inside the L1 Pro8 is essentially the same as the standalone Sub1, so I think that would be a wash. The S1 Pro's standalone SPL rating is 103 dB (109 peak), while the L1 Pro8's complete system rating is 112 dB (118 peak). A 10 dB difference is close to the "twice as loud" perception. I would attribute this to the the Pro8 having 8 drivers to go along with its racetrack driver vs the S1 Pro's 3 drivers and 6" woofer plus the Sub1's racetrack driver.
Everything is subjective, so it will all depend on the ambient acoustics, placement of the system, type of source material, and tastes of the listener.
