Hi there,
I’ve got 2 L1MIIwB2 setups. I use them interchangebly for shows/events and in my studio when not out and about.
Space is an issue for me in my studio, so I’m looking to fit them into the space vacated by my 18" bass bins on each side of my mixing deck.
I’m aware that the radiator will not slide into the power stand unless the legs have been completely extracted.
Now, as the footprint of the powerstand is greater than the footprint of my 18" bass bins (go figure!), I am unable to use the L1MII’s in my studio without seriously cramping the room up.
How can I fit the radiators into the powerstand without having to fully extract the legs? Is there any way that I can do this?
Also, ST mentioned that this would invalidate my warranty. I ask how & why? The speakers/electronics will be used exactly in the same manner in which Bose designed for us to use it. The only difference is that I’ll be able to extract the legs as much as the space permits me to… giving me extra flexibility to place it in difficult to place areas.

BTW, thank you for the Bose contact details. Much appreciate it. I’m actually in the UK, but I do have the contact details of our local Bose rep (Colin… a great guy). Not sure if he’s around in this forum - not seen him as yet.

Thanks ST. No disrespect or harm intended… hope none’s taken as well. Apologies if I’ve hurt your feelings in any way.
Hi pande_monium,
The reason that the legs have to be fully opened before inserting a radiator section is for stability and, therefore, safety . If you look at the powerstand you will notice a black bar sticking into the cavity when the legs are folded in for transportation.
The legs have to be fully open in order to retract this safety bar and make the system safe to use.
I take your point about the footprint of the L1’s powerstand but its form was dictated by its need to safely support the radiators.
All the best, Andy
Hey Andy,
Thanks for your reply.
I agree with you (and everybody else) on opening up the powerstand’s legs fully when out and about at gigs/events/shows - that’s common sense and a given. The chances that someone will walk across cables, trip over the powerstand legs or simply bump the radiator are high in these cases. So, sure… I get the point.
However, what about when its in the studio and out of harm’s way? I know for a fact that there is nothing that’ll touch the speakers once they’ve been setup. And, I DO want to open the powerstand’s legs up as far as the space will allow me to. Heck, I certainly want as much stability I can get - the 2 L1 setups didn’t come cheap!
So, back to the question(s).
- How can I do this? Surely there is a way to do this! Its may just not have been disclosed/circulated. Or, it may invalidate the warranty. Or, Bose doesn’t want us to know it. If its possible, I’d like to know about it and then take a decision if I would want to go that route or not
- Will the solution invalidate the warranty?
- What if I sign a disclaimer to indemnify Bose Corp for any stability related issues when the system is setup without the powerstand’s legs fully unfolded? All other areas would still fall under the normal warranty? Would this work? If not, why?
Is anyone able to take these specific questions?
If noone here has the remit to answer these questions, can someone take these questions up to Legal to explore the possiblities? Perhaps someone in Design can suggest a possible solution?
Hi pande_monium,
I have posted on your other thread, hopefully with enough detail to answer your questions but to summarise…
There is deliberately no way to circumvent the safety bar coming into the socket on the powerstand when the legs are retracted. The only way you could achieve this would be to physically cut the bar or go inside the powerstand and make whatever changes you could to the mechanics of the legs and bar.
This would invalidate the warranty and the disclaimer option you raise is not possible as there is no simple procedure to disable or remove the bar.
I have provided more detail on this in your other thread and as I have said there, while I know these won’t be the answers you seek,I hope you will understand why I have answered the way I have.
All the very best, Andy
