I have a Bose AV 38 Lifestyle surround system, is there an upgrade kit available for smart TV's and Iphone compatible
Hi JeffPelaez,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community!
Regarding your query, I'm not sure what you mean. If you give me an idea of what you are trying to do, I'll be more than happy to advise you as best I can.
I look forward to hearing from you!
It's obvious what he's trying to do. He wants to be able to connect his Bose Lifestyle 38 to his smart TV using HDMI or optical as with a new Bose soundbar, etc. And, he wants to be able to connect his cell phone as with bluetooth or the Soundtouch app, etc.
To the OP, I think the answer to your question is no.
Actually, it is a 2 part answer. You can use a vs-2 to upgrade video from LS38 to 1080 and upgrade to hdmi connection. I have one and it works great. You can also use a bose bluetooth adapter to connect any BT device to a lifestyle or a wave. I have one and it works with Alexa, my lifestyle, my wave, my boselink multiroom wireless connections and my media server.
That’s interesting, which Bose Bluetooth did you use, please? I assume it was one of the SoundTouch but which one? I have an AV38 IV. Thanks

Depending on the Subwoofer you have, you might be able to upgrade your Bose receiver to the last version your sub could support. The only catch is, it would be a 1080p receiver.
I talk about the subwoofer required, the receiver, and a few other options in this post.
I hope that helps 🙂
wrote:Jeff at big thank you for sharing. Just some awesome details on what is available. thanks again. let me ask you about this HDMI Output Upgrade Kit . Thoughts on this being an option?
I'm guessing that comment is for me? Well, it is up to you to decide if you would like to upgrade. It will be a massive leap over your current setup for sure and support uncompressed audio. So if you're only looking at that, then this would be a great upgrade.
Just know that 8K TV's are already being sold and current Lifestyle systems do not support 8K or Dolby Atmos. Though if you look at how long it took for 4K to become the standard, you will have maybe 3-6 years before 8k is the standard.
Since the current Lifestyle line was released in 2016, there is a chance that a new version will come out next year. But Bose is known to take its time upgrading products, so it could be another 3 years. With Bose, it is hard to know for sure 🤷♂️
wrote:NeonsNight me bad, that comment was for you, lol. Again thanks for the info much appreciated. i did hear Bose would give me a trade in credit for $1K, but still a big nut to bite off
Sys38 still works like a rockstar. had it for 12 yrs.
Again thanks!
Well, you can contact your local Bose dealer and see if they can do better than $1k off. The other options I mentioned might work for you, even using an HDMI splitter as I mentioned this post & only using optical and not caring about 2 HDMI outs would work for your current setup.
You have choices, and that's a good thing 🙂
HI
I would say you have to separate Bose - as sound , and something else for video. I use my LS38/48 as only great sound source. Try to avoid connection any video source to LS38/ Simply avoid video/ Use it just for sound and you will enjoy it ( only if connected and adjusted correctly)
Hope u will enjoy it !!
I went over the character limit on the previous post, but I wanted to save my work:

While the Lifestyle V10/V20/V30 does include 2 HDMI inputs that support HDMI Audio & Video, it does not support uncompressed audio, ARC, or CEC.

Sorry for the late reply, Tenderah. I bought a "Bose Bluetooth Audio" adapter several years ago, prior to the SoundTouch branding, I believe. This was also before the SoundTouch App, perhaps. 2014 maybe or 2015?
I want to thank you for the advice. It worked!

So glad I found this post. Just bought a house and inherited the Lifestyle 48 system.
The problem I have is that there’s no way to get the on screen menu. I have everything going through a VS2. I want to change it to use optical from my PS4, which I hooked directly into the Optical In on the LS48.
but how do I get to the on screen menu? Every time I try the TV loses signal.

Hopefully "Option 0c" in the solution will answer your question.
If you go through the troubleshooting there is a chance that either the VS2 is incompatible with your TV (try with another and see if it'll work) or the VS2's cables or the device itself is malfunctioning.
So you can either try "Option 0a", "Option 2b", or "Option 3" as a solution.
Though I am more partial to "Option 4" and upgrading to the more advanced AV35 receiver if your subwoofer is compatible.
What an amazing thread - learned a lot!
Can I please double check I interpreted your advice correctly, ? I've just got a LS38 and want to connect to TV & PS5. I connected the console to the TV via optical (PS5 does not have optical output), set TV sound output to DTS and use HDMI from PS5 to TV for video. On the Bose remote, I need to set to 'CBL-SAT' for it to work and the display shows 5.1. Is that the best set-up for my system?
Also my parents previously extended the speaker cables so thinking of replacing / buying new ones as not sure if audio has been impacted - any suggestions / recommendations?

Ah, so "Option 1a" then. Most TV's do not support DTS and not all TV's output 5.1, but if it does, you will also have to set your PS5 up in Bitstream mode in two locations mentioned here and ensure it only outputs DTS 5.1 & Dolby Digital 5.1.

It would be whichever input you assign to Optical really. I personally would set it to TV, but it's whatever makes the most sense to you.
If you do find that "Option 1a" doesn't work (you will know since your display only shows 2.0 when you have a Blu-ray playing and selected a 5.1 output), you might want to look into "Option 3", but you might also want to look into a universal remote with that option.
If your subwoofer is compatible, I would look into "Option 4" as well, as the AV35 receiver has many improvements over the AV38.

Sorry, I don't have any recommendations there. I would probably call up Bose and see if they have any longer cables as they are good quality and have the proper connections for your Lifestyle subwoofer and Jewel Cubes if you have them.
If you decided to get standard speaker wire, make sure you have the correct adapters for the speaker wire.
I hope that this helps answer your question 🙂
Wow thanks for the quick and detailed response to this and my other post - really appreciate it!! Will research what you said and let you know what I ended up doing.
Bit of a silly question but how do you 'assign' a channel to optical? There's only one optical input which I thought was generic / unassigned...

I mention it a few times in the guide, but look under "Option 1a". You will need to be able to see the settings menu on your TV to change it. If you cannot, then either leave it as it is or use "Option 0a" and get a video converter so you can connect it to an HDMI port.
