Lifestyle 650 remote update hung

Hey all.

I'm having an issue where out of the blue, my lifestyle 650 remote started updating. It stayed like that for about 12 hours (overnight). During this time, it wouldn't control the Bose console. Hitting setup on the console brought it to the setup screen, but I wasn't able to control the menu. I reset the console by hitting the power button. It came back up saying that an update was available. The remote hadn't changed at that point. I tried resyncing it to the console with no luck. At that point, I pulled the batteries, waited 30 secs and put them back in. I was still unable to resync the remote.

At that point, I performed a factory reset on the console. When it came up to the welcome screen, I could resync the remote. It then told me there was a system update, which I ran.

This is where I'm at now. Console is updated, and I'm trying to set up my speakers again. I can do the front and rears, but when I get to the bass module, as soon as it detects the module, the remote becomes unresponsive and won't sync up again. I've tried rebooting the console, unplugging the console for 30 secs, removing the batteries from the remote and finally factory resetting the console.

I've gone through the process a number of times and it always fails at the bass unit, when it wants me to click "next" to test the bass unit for sound.

It would be good if there were a way to operate the menu without needing the remote (like by using the rear usb connection to connect a mouse or some sort of controller - even if there was a usb port on the remote so you could hard-wire the remote in).

So this is where I'm currently at. Can anyone give me some advice on where to go from here?

Cheers.

Hi Casey_1,

Thanks for writing in!  Sorry to hear about the remote issues, but would be happy to help!

To clarify, when the console went through the update, how far away was the remote from the console?

If you can confirm whether the remote actually does need an update, can you check by following these steps?

  • To determine if the remote will be updated, press the More button, select System AV Settings, then System Info.
  • FW indicates the firmware version currently on the remote.
  • FWA indicates the firmware version available from the control console.
  • Both FW and FWA should match if both are up to date.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Tony.
The remote was no more than 4m away from the console during the update.
At the moment, I cant get to a point where pressing “more” on the remote does anything. I’m stuck at a stage where it’s connecting my speakers after a factory reset.

Hi Casey_1,

Thanks for the update.  This is definitely an odd situation and I think the best way to get this resolved is to contact your local support team in your area.  Just click HERE and select your country and Contact Us.
