Losing, then getting back mid/high-range audio

I am a solo vocalist in San Antonio, Texas and have been using my L1 Model II with T1  and two B1's now for over 4 years. I bought the system in late 2010, but did not actively use it until mid-2016.

First of all, I am not tech/audio equipment savvy, so I would appreciate anyone sharing their experience with this problem I have been having. I know the operational system basics and general nuances from doing so many shows, but am not so good at diagnosing/troubleshooting issues.

I do 30-40 shows a month between senior living communities, a weekend restaurant gig and whatever private events I get. So, needless to say, I put the system to work! I have been sidelined since mid-May, due to the COVID-19 restrictions put in place, so now is the time to try to resolve my issue.

Anyway; on to my issue! I am periodically losing full audio (mid-high range) from my tower speakers; then after some time, full audio will come back. It is very frustrating, as I will increase the audio volume; then when It comes back to normal, it startles me and my audience and I have to bring the volume back down. I have replaced cables to connect to the T1 and my tablet that I utilize for my backing tracks. I have also upgraded recently to the T4, but still have intermittent problems. I have also blown my ports/connectors out with computer duster high pressure air to clean them.

If anyone knows what might be going on, please share with me.

Thank you!

We have had this same problem for years almost EVERY DAY with the Bose system our band uses at one of our major Farmers Markets and many other L1 owners have reported the same problem in our community here.

The consensus is that it may be an issue with the electric supply -- that if the mains voltage drops due to other loads on the power supply (in our case, pizza ovens, etc.) the Bose compensates by drastically lowering the mid to highs and volume as you describe - which after a while (sometimes 2 - 3 hours) suddenly return...causing me to jump on the master fader on our mixer...

I keep thinking I should bring one of my Watt meters to check the power supply and confirm this theory - but darn it, I keep forgetting to bring it...and now our gigs are cancelled anyway...

ST will probably help us out here by providing links to our prior conversations on this issue.

Hi, TJinSA.

Thanks for all the background information.

Based on all the troubleshooting you have done, it sounds like the unit needs to be serviced. Please call Bose Support and they can tell you about service options.

There's nothing in the L1 that selectively shuts down specific frequencies when there is an issue with power.  If an out-of-spec power condition is detected, the unit will restart. The typical behavior is, the power LED (blue) will turn red, the sound will cut out, and then within a few seconds, the system will resume. If the error condition still exists, the system will restart again (and again and again).

If the system stops playing mid-high frequencies (and there have been no changes to the source signal), the unit needs to be serviced.

Good morning,

we are experiencing the same issue with our L1S, B2, T1.

I did post a bout that 2 days ago but finally found your thread.

Did you manage to solve that problem? With a service repair? What was it?

Thank you in advance.

Marc

Yes, have had same problem with both T-1's through the years. Sent them back to Bose, no help. Sent both Li's back for rebuilds. No help. Now have T-4. No problems yet.
